Dx with silent reflux at 8 months
FPIES, DGE, MSPI. Recently diagnosed with EC (Eosin. colitis and now Primary immune deficiency disease.
Also mom to Nathan. born Jan.20th, 2009, MPI . so far dx with reflux and has an extremely sensitibe GI system. Also dx with primary immune deficiency disease.
Can anyone suggest a sauce?
Jazz eats pasta once or twice a week and I'm looking for a sauce I can use with pasta, doesn't have to have meat. But it needs to be Soy/milk free and I don't want to use too much tomato, infact I'd rather use none if I could find something yummy. Any ideas???

Thanks ladies!!

Lorenzo b.4/25/07 1 week in NICU w/ aspirate pneumonia from a reflux episode; diagnosed GERD at 9weeks; Used Zantac for 5months. Currently using Chinese Medicine and Craniosacral Therapy. GERD, Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Sensory Processing Disorder. Ask me about breastfeeding a refluxer! Pic: day 5 in the NICU.
I use goat milk yogurt as a base and add whatever I think will be accepted to add to it -- finely chopped or pureed spinach, kale, carrots, peas, etc. I have also used olive oil or a non-dairy butter substitute called Earth Balance, again adding finely chopped or pureed foods in addition. We have also had some success with smashed avocado, and straight veggie purees mixed in.

Audrey Meadow 06/20/08. born 34/35 weeks. Still b/f and eats everything! ftt and chronic constipation.
this is tough but i think it is possible. Could you puree any veggies like squash or zucchini for her? if you can you can just pour it over pasta. how about a home made pesto sauce (pine nuts and basil)? Or even a beef or chicken gravy over noodles, kind of like a strogaonoff without the sour creme) hope this might have given you a few ideas.

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
When we have spaghetti, Morgan and Maggie eat cheese filled pasta with just butter on it. You could just use the substitutes that Lorenzo's mama suggested. I've always liked pasta in butter...my step-dad used to put too much garlic in his sauce so I'd just put butter on mine.

Thanks ladies, I like the chicken gravy (she can't have beef) and I guess I'll have to experiment with veggies. melissa, we use olive oil now which she likes but I want to change it up for those fussy days...KWIM? I which she could do dairy!!!! She loves cheese...:-( She also can't tolerate any goat or sheep products. But I think I can come up with something...Thanks!!

Molly also eats a lot of pasta. I use a little bit of dairy free margerine, or olive oil and garlic, plain chicken or beef stock/broth, or I add some flour or cornstarch to the broth to make a thicker gravy. I also have used beef broth, flour, and rice milk to make a creamy stroganoff-type sauce with ground beef.

If you are willing to use a little bit of tomato, you could mix tomato soup with rice milk to make a creamy rose sauce. I want to try that, but I have been to scared to try tomato!

Picture: This is what happens when you raise a kid on health food and they get ahold of a Coke! Bad mom, that soda is NOT on the reflux diet.
UPDATE: Isaiah is now 12 and off meds! He is doing great, eating again and hopefully will be catching up in the growing department. I am still in the "hoping it sticks" phase, but we're so happy that he's better!
Pesto! Basil, some garlic, pine nuts and olive oil. Puree them all together and toss the pasta with it...we add things like chicken, ham, peas, sweet peppers....it's a little garlic-y but my kids all love it! Also, you could try a bechemel sauce...if you have some soy and dairy free butter sub., you just mix 3 tbs of that with 3 tbs. of flour. Heat and stir until it forms a very thick paste. Then add 2 cups rice milk all at once. You can add salt, garlic salt and a dash of nutmeg and that makes a pretty decent white sauce...or add the salt and a small amount of tomato sauce (won't need much) to make a tomato cream sauce. You could add bits of ham or turkey or chicken, green peas, mushrooms and other vegetables to round it out!

Forgot to add...tuna fish with a little soy-free mayo, some corn niblets, green onion, peas, maybe a small dash of curry powder with shell-shaped pasta is good. You can mix everything in while the noodles are steamy-hot and serve it warm, or chill it and serve it cold!
