If I remember correctly your child is also 2.5 and still eating baby food. What does your pedi say about it? Have they sent you for feeding therapy? Our son will now eat oreos, Ritz crackers, goldfish, and baby food. I don't get why he will eat certain things but won't touch food. He is very picky about cookies and crackers. He may put it to his mouth but not eat them or say he doesn't like them. I am wondering if this is behavioral. It is not an issue of swallowing because he will eat the above items. Oh, he will also eat Hershey Kisses and Tootsie Rolls. He will only eat certain types of jar foods. If it has chunks in it you can forget it. He won't touch Beechnut Stage 3 because they are too chunky. If your pedi has given you any info please share. Our pedi has basically said he will grow out of it. If you remember we tried the starvation diet to get him to switch and that failed. After 4 days of liquids and him refusing table food we gave up. I didn't completely starve him because as a mother I could not do that. I made sure he had applesauce or yogurt before bed, but removed all baby food from his cupboard. He gets in the cupboard and chooses which food he wants to eat. This is ridiculous! amanda

I'm not blueleopard, but popping in here to say that IMO you should ask for a feeding referral to an ST or OT. There are LOTS of things that could help him with this, whether it is medical or behavioral. You might also read some books about picky eaters...I listed a few in a post below titled "thank you to elysabeths mom" and some other moms are in the post title too. I have gotten a lot of great ideas from reading books on the subject.

2 healthy daughters (knock wood) Cory (16), Kim (11) & Eric (4) diagnosed with e.e. (scoped 8/08), GERD & severe food/seasonal allergies, asthma. Cried non-stop first 17 mths. of life Found out he is allergic to cow's milk, soy, eggs, and peanuts. Takes Prevacid, Neocate One Plus & Flovent.
My son has some different issues going on that cause him to choke on bigger food items (he has e.e. recently diagnosed). We are now in the process of getting a swallow study & other testing at our children's hospital. It sounds like your son may really benefit from a feeding clinic; it could very well be behavioral if you have ruled out medical issues. I wouldn't listen to your pediatrican about waiting for him to grow out of it. Good Luck & keep us posted. Has he been retested to see if the peanut allergy is still there? Eric tested positive again yesterday, so his is staying put (as well as milk & eggs). Ellen

Opps, I forgot to ask you - how is his asthma? We were getting nightly wheezing so they just prescribed something he has to inhale twice a day and more when he is sick. I really am feeling like a nurse these days. Ellen

Yes! Unfortunately our peanut allergy is sticking around. Our RAST score actually went up this time from a .7 (class 1) to 6.8 (class 3). We have no idea what type of a reaction he would have if he ate peanuts. His asthma seems to be fine as long as he is well. Bryson is taking Pulmicort twice daily to prevent attacks. We had a pretty bad attack several weeks ago when he got a cold. Our pedi had us double up on his Xopenex to avoid going to the ER. If that did not work we were headed in that night. Luckily, it helped but it was done every 3 hours for several days. Thanks for asking! How did Eric test on his peanut allergy test. Do you have his scores? Obviously if he was tested yesterday and you have results already he must have had the scratch test completed. Bryson was a 4++ at 15 months by scratch test.
