Our 1 year old daughter has silent reflux, hypotonia as well as benign external hydrocephalus. We are currently weaning onto whole milk (we'll see if it works) and she is also on Prevacid 15mg per day.
Your thoughts before I call this lady back...
So I have been trying to find a place that is safe, clean and caring for Keira to go to like once a week just for maybe two hours or so. This way I can do some errands or doctor appointments or work out- whatever. Anyways this therapy place for pediatrics has a moms morning out program- 9:45 to 12:45 which is great! Once a week or twice - you pick. This place actually did Keira's early intervention eval although they didn't take our insurance and so we ended up w/ someone else for the pt part but.. So I called them but when they found out that Keira is not walking yet and nor is she crawling (backwards still but not forwards) they acted funny about it. I asked if it was the age (as waaaaay back they had age restrictions when I called before) and they said "no, not really. We have a six month old here for this program but she can crawl and pull up to a stand and cruise and everything." (well good for her!) Then they asked "well how often were you wanting to bring her? Once or twice a week?" I thought- gee what does it matter?!? You're telling me you can't watch a kid for three hours in one room with toys? I told them she scoots all over and she can get up and down from a sitting position w/out help. Anyways they said they'd have to think about it, talk to the actual "sitter" and get back to me. I mentioned this to the PT Keira sees and he knows this place and he says he was kinda suprised at the response I got. He said there's usually only three kids in that program. So they have called back but I haven't called them yet. I just felt sorta discriminated against for her delays. :( I don't know if I should just ignore that one lady and go meet the real sitter and find out how she is or should I not even take Keira there due to their first response? The funny thing is - IT'S A PEDIATRIC PT PLACE!!!! :P

Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
wow, that's really bad. Is it public funded at all? If so, then they can't do that...besides, if she's mobile, she's mobile...what does it matter..you not asking them to teach her trigonometry! That sucks..hopefully it was just one stupid person.

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
I would def. go meet the sitter before making a decision. This is a huge red flag, BUT just because that lady has no phone tact, doesn't mean that the sitter is the same way. Now, if the sitter shows the same attitude, I wouldn't give them the time of day. That lady sounds like she didn't want to have to fool with a baby that would actually take "attention". I admit it's tougher when a baby isn't mobile. I had two today, but it's not like it's an impossibility and for goodness sake, it's like 4hrs a week. Get over it!

And yeah, I was thinking to myself "didn't she say this is a ped. therapy place?" geez.

I meant to tell you I was "in your neck of the woods". I drove up to the hwy 17 exit (I think that's right) and went to Helen Ga. Sunday. I was BY MYSELF! I didn't stop in Helen. It was too stinkin crowded and no parking spots. I just drove on down through the mountains.

Yeah it's public funded. :( I was talking to the PT last week like I said in the post about this and all- he says it's hard to find places to take kids w/ delays. I thought- Well thank GOD I quit my job!!! I'd fear what they would or wouldn't do w/ Keira if she was in daycare. Sheesh! I swear when we move out of this house I want to open up my own type of daycare for kids w/ delays and what not as I just feel it's so harsh to treat people like that. Here at home if I need to go in another room she scoots and follows me. It's not like I have to hold her all the time. And it's one day a week for three hours and you're telling me that's too hard?!? :P

LOL- I think Helen is about an hour north of us. But yeah it's October fest time so...I bet it was packed. We hope to get up there soon just for the views during fall season. Last year we went but that was during Keira's awful reflux period and we had to leave early.

It was funny, I was thinking of you bc I was actually headed to Commerce. Then I saw the Helen exit and couldn't resist. The mountains were calling me and I really didn't have $ to shop :) The leaves are pretty but there was still more green than I expected. I will have to go back in a week or so.

My previous drivers license was also stolen. The new one has extra security features on it.
I hope the sitter is a lot kinder and more reasonable and that this works out for you.

I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
the 6 month old already crawls and pulls herself up?! WOW! joslyn is 6 months old and can not crawl or pull herself up. That is an advanced baby!

Yeah, I guess I'm kind of slow. There is near to no chance that a 6mo is pulling up. That woman is confused on something-the baby's age or her abilities. I've never seen a 6mo pull up. Heck, today I had an 8mo that can't crawl and I know that's not unusual.

Coyle Eagan. One Year Old. Doing well on Cow's Milk flavored with juice :) Drinking two bottles of Go&Grow daily. Eating solids better but still have rough days. No More Silent Reflux-that I can hear anyway.. but puking again. Zantac 2ML 2X daily.
okay, um, the person who spoke to you.. was she just the receptionist or someone in a place of "responsibility" in the organization? the reason i say this, and i hope not to offend anyone at all, is because of a receptionist that i worked with @ my old job. On a continual basis, even after numerous counseling sessions, she would answer questions that were "above her pay grade" as we say in the federal government. She would also routinely give out information to the public, which is a big no-no. So, if she was just the receptionist then I wouldn't base your decision on her behavior (which was ridiculous by the way).

otherwise, if the sitter checks out okay this would be great for you..

Nope she's actually one of the owners from what I understand. And the actual owner of the whole company is also the founder of the early intervention in this state. The pt said "that's beyond me how THAT happened." I'm going to talk to the pt about it again tomorrow and see what he thinks as he knows this lady. I'm just sorta floored at her response. Maggiemom- The 6 month old is a child of a PT so maybe that's why she's more advanced? The lady could have been exaggerating too just to make it sound like Keira is WAY behind.

I'm not impressed with her attitude-at all. most people in the services industry are understanding... not rude and condecending. hoping it was an off day.
