Everyone Update Post
Time for the weekly updates. What's new? How are the kids who are sick doing? Everyone else?

I don't have anything to update on. They are talking snow/rain this week and I'm praying they are wrong. Other then that it is the same old. I can't wait to hear from you all.

ethan's mom
Meridith, mom to Ethan born 4/23/08. Ethan was diagnosed with reflux at about 1 month. He has been on Zantac (unsuccessful) and Prevacid. He is currently taking 7.5 mg of Prevacid 2x per day, with good results. We also suspect MPI, though this hasn't been confirmed by a doctor yet.
Ethan is mostly breastfed, though we are doing one bottle of soy formula each day. We also do some homeade "solids' including, so far pears, avocado, sweet potato, and peaches.

Ethan and I have no major reflux updates. He would like to let you all know that he will be six months old tomorrow! He'd also like to let everyone know that he gets to go visit his papa and gram tomorrow.

Hope everyone else is doing well or better, as the case may be.

I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
Nothing new on our end either. Joslyn is still struggling thru her bfing. She is down to 6-8 mins total. but she is sucking really hard so I think she is getting alot! She can take 5-10 mins to drink 1.5 ounces after her bfing. So that is why I think she is getting a good amount when she nurses. She still arches and screams during most of her bfing. Some are really good... but others are not. She is not constipated any more! HURRAY.

what about any one else?!

Coyle Eagan. One Year Old. Doing well on Cow's Milk flavored with juice :) Drinking two bottles of Go&Grow daily. Eating solids better but still have rough days. No More Silent Reflux-that I can hear anyway.. but puking again. Zantac 2ML 2X daily.
We are headed back to the doc this afternoon. coyle is still sick. going on 3 weeks now. not sleeping but thankfully still eating OK. i want to make sure it is nothing more than a cold and that the ear infection is gone.

this is his 5th cold this year.. all from the neighbor baby... his mother brings him over sick and also lets him suck on all coy's toys and she kisses on him as well. I always disinfect everything after they leave but apparantely the damage gets done quick...

i've tried to drop hints. for example this past cold i said "you know, we can't afford for coy to get sick like this because of his weight issue, the reflux, and not eating".. her response was "oh, he's fine! it is just an ear infection. you have to stop worrying about his weight!!".. UM, didn't you get the point??? YOUR KID IS GETTING MINE SICK!!!

Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
We are just puking up a storm, but drinking well, so that's good. Let's hope this increase in volume gets some weight gain!! There is still no solids...they are just a BUST. We have feeding therapy again tonight. The state is coming to asses him on Thursday morning. I hope he qualifies...it would be a nice help. His lab work was also all completed yesterday (they had to draw blood on two different days)...wish us luck that it all comes back boring and ordinary!

alex's mom
Alex was dx with silent reflux at 3 weeks old. Previously on Prevacid SoluTabs 15mg daily, now on trial of no medication. Was thought to have oral aversion, saw feeding specialist who says he's just not interested in food--no aversion at all. Slowly coming around to food. 15 months, 19lbs, 7 oz.
Alex is still recovering from his stomach virus...his vomiting and diarrhea has improved but not resolved. Thanks to everyone that answered my post! He loved the ice cube in mesh bag idea. Hopefully, he didn't lose too much weight during this period. He ate some applesauce for breakfast today (yay, big deal for my little guy). We are seeing an OT for his oral aversion (behavioral or otherwise) on Thursday. We're hoping she will be a good "fit" for Alex and will help him get more comfortable with solids and liquids.

I'm trying to stay positive and hope that things will start to turn around for us. I'm so glad that I have joined this forum and although I am new I see so much of me and my LO in everyone's post and feel so much support. Thank you to everyone who posts! I hope to get a picture up soon.

Beautiful Meggy
We have contacted John Hopkins again and will be setting up another appt. Meggy has had a horrific week with pain but hey she is a trooper and just gets right back up and keeps going and going. While last night was quite a scare with the possible Sandifer's and blue spell, she is up and going and having a great day.

There has only been 35 minutes today that she couldn't distract herself from the pain so that is good.

The pediatrician we saw today was not concerned with the 2 ounce weight loss, but was very concerned with the pain level Meggy was showing even right there in the office. She said she is certain last nights episodes were not seizures but were pain related.

She told me to call John Hopkins back and tell them she is willing to cooperate and help in any way, but she doesn't know what to do for Meggy herself.

I have 3 boys, youngest has gerd, 18 months of no sleep. Prevacid 2x/7.5 mg thinking of switching to prilosec.
Good day everyone! My GER babe, David is super whiney & clingy. We have a nasty cold going through the family. He's already had the worst of it, I hope, but keeps pointing at his tongue while sticking it out. Is it GER or a sore throat? Tylenol, mylanta, a bath, and now a popsicle...Then there's the other two big boys. School, 8 yr old doing experiment, kitchen a mess, another day in our little house on the hillside...

Renee, mother to Nicholas, born 4/18/08 with silent reflux, moderate laryngomalacia, Sandifer's Syndrome& suspected MSPI. On Neocate, Simply Thick and Prevacid. Also mother to Nathan, born 12/06/06, who had mild reflux the first few months.
We've been having a tough week. Nicholas's all over body rash is worse than ever. No matter what we do, it's awful. The only thing that seems to help at all is the cortisone, but my MD said two weeks on and two off. He is teething..again. Seems the first two came in and we had like a two day break before he was chewing away on everything in site working on the next ones. His reflux is flaring to where not only is he super fussy but he is arching and pulling off the bottle and not sleeping well at all. We had been making good progress to where he was just up once at night and went right back. Now he is up two to three times again and stays awake for some time before going back. We just got his Prevacid dose increased today and hope it helps. In the meantime, we have had to start using the Mylanta again 3 times a day. Our good news for this week is that he finally got cleared from his pulmonologist! Woohoo!! He still has the laryngomalacia but the doctor is pleased with it's improvement and feels it will just come along fine on it's own in time. That's good considering my employer changed our insurance plan (again) and our copays for specialist go from 35-60 dollars per visit (ouch). We were suppossed to start solids this week but I'm waiting until he seems a little more comfortable to try them, otherwise how will I know if they don't agree-he's already so miserable.

One last thing. I took the boys for their first professional photos on Sunday. What a disaster!! Nathan is definitely in terrible twos. My boy who ususally loves posing for the camera had a meltdown the entire time. I only got a couple shots with both boys together and he's balling in everyone. So disappointing after all the effort that went into coordinating outfits, getting a haircut, coordinating naps etc. Won't be trying that again anytime soon

Check with your
doctor first!
