Chronic Sinuitis(sp)
I took Brandon to the allergy/ashtma doc yesterday. He has only been off antibiotic's for 2 wks and he has yet another sinus infec. She decided to do a CT scan on him to look at his sinus and see what is going on then figure out trtmnt from there. He did great for the CT! What they found was ALL of his sinus cavities are completely full. The doc said usually you see some black in the scan (meaning there is air) and his were totally white (mucos). She said the reason he keeps getting the sinus infec is that they aren't getting completely cured. They seem better to us, but his sinus aren't draining.

So now he is on 21 days of a heavy ab, one wk on a steriod (YIKES those have already kicked in), we are to saline rinse his nose at least once a day, and he is to have no antihistimines or decongestants (we don't want those to dry him up we want all of this to drain-yuck) for the next month. Then we go back for a repeat ct and hope they are all clear then. She has also ordered a CBC including for allergies, lymph and immune system. Just want to be sure we are not missing anything. I hate he is on this ab's but hopefully this will be the last ones for a while! In the meantime Aubrey has a cold but so far (please hope and pray) it is just a cold and has not effected her eating!!!!

Adriane Reese 05/16/07; seemingly healthy when born; diagnosed with MSPI, severe Reflux, Apnea, Ashtma, Epilepsy, and severe food allergies(rice, corn, milk, soy, eggs, oats, wheat, beef, chicken, squash, pumpkin, avocado, etc.);On apnea monitor, seems to be tolerating RCF w/carbohydrate mixed in; on Zyrtec, Xopenex, Prevacid
I feel for him. This is the way that I lived my life for years. I hope they figure some stuff out. Have they talked about any nose sprays to get the inflamation down. Like a Nasacort or Nasonex? That is what Morgan and I are both on. It seems to have really helped. Have they done any skin testing on him? I would say after they get all this cleared up that I would want skin testing done to see what is causing this. that way you could get him starting on treatments for the cause not just the infection. I have had two sinus surgeries and wouldn't get another one unless absolutely necessary. It works for a while but w/o the right follow up and meds and actually treating the cause it eventually will need to be done again.

I hope the antibiotics and steroids work for him. I am on the same thing right now. I am sending good feelings his way, and yours. -Amanda

Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
Poor little guy - he must be completely miserable. I struggled with that in high school and it was awful. Hopefully you'll be able to get them drained. Guess you're going to need to run by Sams to stock up on tissue - ick.

I am glad they have found the cause of the repeat infections. I hope the treatment works and you are able to maintain clear cavities. I am sorry he has to go through so much.

Thanks for updating us.

Yes, they did skin testing on him the end of August. Everything came back negative. He was dx w/ vasomotor rhinitis. I say it mean he is allergic to nothing and everything! I am hoping after this that maybe he really doesn't have asthma it is just a sinus issue... If it isn't one kid it is the other or the dh!

I have 3 boys, youngest has gerd, 18 months of no sleep. Prevacid 2x/7.5 mg thinking of switching to prilosec.
When my son was 5 he had a round of all those meds with ct scan pos. for sinus infection following an entire yr of nose battles, dr appts, allergy dr appts, ENT appts, What a yr that was. Here is the hope: after the steroid med round, he was completely better. Now when he has a cold we really watch for nose problems and he seems to pull through fine. He's 8 now and immune system much matured. Hang in there!
