Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
Elecare vs Elecare Vanilla
Hi all, Z is 100% Elecare fed and he is just over one year old, so I got a few cans of the Vanilla and have been mixing the bottles with just a little of the vanilla to start out. It seems like his puking is way worse since we've started...just a couple of days. It could be completely unrelated, but it's worth asking if anyone else's child had an intolerance to the vanilla... He's taking in way more, but puking way more, too. I think he drank 35 oz yesterday..that's UNHEARD of (I usually struggle to get to 25), but he probably puked up 5 or so...BLAH! At least the puke smells better!!

My previous drivers license was also stolen. The new one has extra security features on it.
Meggy is sensitive to vanilla. We know Meggy cannot tolerate corn of any sort and unfortunately vanilla has corn.

Although I would have to say if he is tolerating the plain elecare okay and it has tons of corn, the corn in vanilla shouldn't bother him.

If it were me, I would go back to plain elecare for now. Let him get back to being vomit free then try again. If the vomiting persist with the new elecare the second go around, then u will know.

Mary & Nicholas 7-17-03 (non-refluxer)allergies, asthma on Singulair and Flovent & Aidan 1-28-07(my refluxer)Nissen Fundoplication on June 20, 2008, FTT, MSPI, DGE, ear tubes, allergies and severe GERD now currently taking just Prevacid and drinking Elecare Vanilla 1+.
Aidan is pretty much solely drinking Elecare Vanilla and he hasn't had any issues with it. My son wasn't much of a puker to begin with though. I hope it is just coincedental and something else is causing the extra vomit. The 1+ formula is really a better balance of nutrition then the regular elecare so I might give it a few more days to see what happens.

What concentration was he on with the plain elecare? The vanilla elecare only has mixing instructions for 30 calorie. some kids don't do well on higher concentrations. Also, since he is a puker anyway, if he is taking in way more volume, i would expect that more volume would come out. Both kinds of elecare have the exact same make-up, at least that's what I thought when i read the cans...I have compared the labels. Only the flavor and mixing instructions are different. If you read the label for the plain elecare you will see that it is appropriate for infants AND children...and our GI was fine with E staying on the plain (she did no better on the vanilla and we have a stockpile of plain!) Mom to
Son (10) GERD(aspiration pneumonias, apnea, tracheomalacia), Food allergy, Asthma
Daughter (6) GERD, Heart Murmur, Food Allergy, Asthma, Mold allergy
Does the vanilla have an artificial sweetener (like sucralose, etc.?) ??? My kids don't do well w/ artificial colors, flavors, etc. If he'll drink the plain, I'd try that. Would your doc let you add some plain sugar?
Check with your
doctor first!
