Adriane Reese 05/16/07; seemingly healthy when born; diagnosed with MSPI, severe Reflux, Apnea, Ashtma, Epilepsy, and severe food allergies(rice, corn, milk, soy, eggs, oats, wheat, beef, chicken, squash, pumpkin, avocado, etc.);On apnea monitor, seems to be tolerating RCF w/carbohydrate mixed in; on Zyrtec, Xopenex, Prevacid
down another pound & still vomitting and diarrhea
So, i haven't been on in almost a week. I have been sick and out for Fall Break. We had a pretty good weekend all things considered. Adriane is being so weird. She is on formula only and most days she is okay with that. Some days she will scavenge the pantry and sometimes even try to get into the trash. Saturday she brought my Mom the bread from the pantry and tapped her belly and said mmm and smacked her lips. The bad news is that she has thrown up or spit up almost everyday for the past week. The diarrhea has gotten worse. We have two or three runny green rank smelling diapers a day. I mean runny like up her back and down her legs. Yuck!! So, she has lost another pound which means she is probably around 20 lbs. at 17 months old. I don't want to go to IV feedings but what do you guys think I should do if this continues without her eating anything but formula and still having this many issues. -Amanda

My previous drivers license was also stolen. The new one has extra security features on it.
What type of formula is she on? Has the GI suggested higher calories per ounce? Although I am not sure if this is okay in terms of hydration with her having diarrhea.

It is so tough when children want to eat but cannot.

I would call the GI and let them know what is up, and see if they have suggestions.

I hope she feels better soon.

ethan's mom
Meridith, mom to Ethan born 4/23/08. Ethan was diagnosed with reflux at about 1 month. He has been on Zantac (unsuccessful) and Prevacid. He is currently taking 7.5 mg of Prevacid 2x per day, with good results. We also suspect MPI, though this hasn't been confirmed by a doctor yet.
Ethan is mostly breastfed, though we are doing one bottle of soy formula each day. We also do some homeade "solids' including, so far pears, avocado, sweet potato, and peaches.

I don't have any specific advice, but I'd definitely get her doctors involved. I'm sorry that she is having such a hard time. Sending hugs and prayers your way.

I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
bless her heart!!!!!!!!!!!

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
I would definitely call the GI.

Poor little Adriane. :( I know that when Rory was on formula only, she always had runny stool, but it was NEVER green and never more than once or twice a day. I agree with consulting the GI, and looking at her formula as a culprit....esp. if that's all she's getting. Is she getting dehydrated from the vomiting and diahrrea?

When my son was on formula only, we had bad problems with dirrehea and rashes. He got a little better on Nutramagen and a lot better on Neocate. He is still on Neocate to this day, because of all the food allergies. Ellen

She was on Neocate for a while and got worse on it. She was losing lots of weight and the diarrhea and vomitting were a lot more frequent. This is our last hope formula. The Docs tell us that it isn't perfect for her but it is as good as it gets. Which is very frustrating. I have a call into her GI doc but haven't heard anything.
