Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
So tired
Zack has had some really pukey days iately. I spent this moring trying to be strong for him while I'm shaking and crying. I'm so distraught. Will we end up with a tube..will we end up with a fundo? What's going to happen to my poor baby. He's so small, I'm scared ot death of the blood test results coming back to tell me something horrible. Why can't I just hold it together? Now I'm the one who feels like they are going to vomit..what did this little kid do to ANYONE to deserve this crap?

I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
I can feel the pain in your post. I feel like crying with you after reading it. Hugs to you and your lo. You are strong..... if you only break down every once in a while.... you are strong!

My name is being used fraudently to ill represent me. Please be cautious of any information you receive with my name. including,,, anything from anyone claiming to be Engi Nowaira online. Otherwise, I will be representing myself in person so that everyone will have opportunity to identify me in person.
My previous drivers license was also stolen. The new one has extra security features on it.
Hugs! U r strong and u can do this, whatever it takes to get your son well. It is heart breaking to see our lo's in pain all the time and it does affect us too in so many ways.

I think your feelings and need to cry are normal and okay. This may be part of your way of working through what is happening.

Feel free to email me if u need to talk more

I am sorry that you are having to go through so many rough patches. U r so right. Our little ones do not deserve the pain they endure on a daily basis.

I hope something great happens to you today and that you feel some encouragement.

alex's mom
Alex was dx with silent reflux at 3 weeks old. Previously on Prevacid SoluTabs 15mg daily, now on trial of no medication. Was thought to have oral aversion, saw feeding specialist who says he's just not interested in food--no aversion at all. Slowly coming around to food. 15 months, 19lbs, 7 oz.
I cried when I read your post. I am sorry to hear about Zack. We are in the exact same boat and I understand how you feel. You and Zack are in my thoughts. They are so little and have to fight so much. I would gladly take all the reflux and vomiting away from my little one. Big hugs to the both of you! Stay strong, you are an awesome mommy!

ethan's mom
Meridith, mom to Ethan born 4/23/08. Ethan was diagnosed with reflux at about 1 month. He has been on Zantac (unsuccessful) and Prevacid. He is currently taking 7.5 mg of Prevacid 2x per day, with good results. We also suspect MPI, though this hasn't been confirmed by a doctor yet.
Ethan is mostly breastfed, though we are doing one bottle of soy formula each day. We also do some homeade "solids' including, so far pears, avocado, sweet potato, and peaches.
I am so sorry that you guys are in such a hard place right now. Neither of you did anything to deserve this.

I'll keep you guys, and the blood test results in my prayers.

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
Hey there. It is so hard to see your little one in pain. We always wonder why this is happening to our lo. WHen I have to talk myself off the ledge I always think about how it could be worse. I ended up needing some help for myself to deal with it. You need to take care of yourself.

Hope you feel better soon and know that you are not alone.

Sharon, Mom to Elyse, 17 mos (15 mos adjusted-preemie). Zantac/Elecare. History of: Respiratory Distress Syndrome with ventilation/CPAP/cannula, tpn, n/g tube, PDA, jaundice, apnea, bradycardia/tachycardia, severe anemia, blood transfusion, reflux, Sandifer's Syndrome, intestinal malrotation, hemangiomas, MSPI, feeding issues. ICU inpatient 53 days! 2 surgeries, 2 UGIs, barium enema, pH probe, endoscopy. Developmentally on target now! PIC: Yobaby Beard
I can't even tell you how many times I have felt what you are feeling! My 31 weeker is almost 17 mos old and I still have weeks here and there where I think she is going to end up on a (ng) tube...and back in the day I also wondered about the fundo. While I would have been okay with either one if it would help her, the thought of more surgery and just overall having to deal with any eating issues at all when most kids simply EAT, was too much at times (and still is).

Hang in there...the puke should diminish! my mom reminded me today that when Elyse was in the hospital due to reflux that the drs said we could expect it to diminish around 2 years since she was a preemie! Elyse still pukes sometimes, but it is WAAAY less often!

Check with your
doctor first!
