Hello ladies! I was just updating everyone on my latest OB/GYN appt. I mean who says 10 pelvic exams a year is abnormal right? I actually quit counting at 10... I went on Friday and we discussed how things were going. He asked if I had had my cycle yet and in the last month I have had 2! We talked of my discomfort and then he did the exam. He could tell I had a signifigant amount of endo and said it is time to do the hysterectomy. It was a happy and sad realization. Dh and I had discussed we were done, but it is still hard to swallow I will not have that option anymore. But the thought of no more pain and heck no more periods is thrilling!

Right now we are putting it off until after the 1st of the year. It will be a full 6wk recovery and I don't want to do it before the Holidays. I wouldn't be able to get any shopping done.

I was given the option of a total hysterectomy or leaving just the left ovary and cleaning everything out. The hope would be that the ovary would leave my body producing its own hormones but that is not 100% guarantee. Even leaving it I might still need HRT. AND since the ovary is what causes endo it may need to be removed at a later date. If I go ahead w/ the total I will have to take HRT for sure. I am leaning towards the total at this point, but the thought of taking hormones forever scares me also.

If you lasted this long reading thanks! Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcomed. Jennifer

My mother just had a total hyst. 3 weeks ago. They found that she had endometriosis, a fibroid tumor the size of a grapefruit, ovarian cysts and early ovarian cancer cells. She has been in pain for years and years and everyone keeps telling her after she recovers she will feel so much better. I'm sure this wasn't an easy decision for you, but I hope that you will feel much better afterwards too. I will keep you in my prayers for a fast recovery when that time comes. -Liz

Our 1 year old daughter has silent reflux, hypotonia as well as benign external hydrocephalus. We are currently weaning onto whole milk (we'll see if it works) and she is also on Prevacid 15mg per day.
I'm so sorry you're having to go down that road. My SIL had to do the same thing for the same reason . She went with the total because they said that if she kept the ovaries then there was still that chance of the endo issues. She's in her 30's and doing great. She says that she wishes she had done it sooner but yet she also wishes she could have had one more kid before having it done. But all in all she is happy she had the total hysto done. I'll be facing this operation at some point in the future as my endo is back again after a 9 month hiatus w/ pregnancy and then a nice long year to start building up again. I'm actually thinking of going on some hormones that will take my period away until I either try for another baby or have the surgery as it was hard enough w/out a kid when my endo was acting up and now with a kid and debilitating cramps and abnormal bleeding-yikes. I wish you the best in whatever decision you make. We're all here for ya! HUGS!!

My name is being used fraudently to ill represent me. Please be cautious of any information you receive with my name. including,,, anything from anyone claiming to be Engi Nowaira online. Otherwise, I will be representing myself in person so that everyone will have opportunity to identify me in person.
My previous drivers license was also stolen. The new one has extra security features on it.
Did anyone discuss a chemically induced menopause with you? I don't know if your mind is totally made up about the hysterectomy and I certainly know it is no easy decision.

I wasn't sure if you are aware of Lupren. If that is how you spell it. A friend of mine used it and said it did wonders for her. I was offered the opportunity but was turned off by the side affects.

I am sorry you are having to go through this. Endo. is anything but fun and can be draining to say the least. I found that a tens unit helps with the pain at times. You put electrodes on your back and abdomen and the little machine sends signals to cut off the nerve pain.

Let me know if I could ever be of any support. You can reach me at

Warning: Opinion to Follow (LOL):

Well, I know we have talked about this all before but if I were in your shoes I might also lean toward a total with HRT. I know it isn't an easy choice... Most of the people I have known who have left an ovary have either still had pain or had the ovary be "reabsorbed" so it wasn't doing anything beneficial anyway, kwim?

Obviously I am very tired of surgery so the idea of perhaps having another one would not be my first choice. I would still (with the total) have them clean everything out. The hysterectomy won't get rid of stuff that is there on other organs. Make sure they check the colon too.

I know, hormones forever is scary... but with endo it is pretty much hormones forever anyway. Either with hysterectomy and HRT, continuous BC or Lupron. Sad but true. :( I guess we just get to pick which sounds the least awful. Never a good choice.

Like I said before, If this were a man's disease I feel pretty certain it would be cured. LOL!!!
