I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
Joslyn is constipated!
Since we have been giving joslyn solids (bananas, carrots, pears) she has been having poopy issues. She wa snot big on carrots or pears but she LOVES bananas. She was eating a whole banana a day!

She has not had a normal poop since Monday. Since then they have been very tiny and very hard ... like a "terd" (TMI!!) Well last night she was cringing and crying. She slept well but this morning she was having such a hard time! You could tell she was in pain . After 2 teeny tiny hard "terds" we finally broke down and gave her a suppository. Bless her heart! She cried so bad. A few minutes later she had a bigger hard poop in her diaper and the whole suppository. She seems to be better now. About 20 mins after she popped out the last stuff, she has been happier and she is asleep.

She was clammy last night and this morning. But not since she pooped the last time. So for now no more food other than cereal for her. We will re introduce solids when her poops are normal again. But no bananas for a while. p We asked her Gi Doc about them and he said that it could cause a problem but more than likely she would be able to handle it. Well that was Wednesday....She cant handle them... or that much of them. Poor baby!

Renee, mother to Nicholas, born 4/18/08 with silent reflux, moderate laryngomalacia, Sandifer's Syndrome& suspected MSPI. On Neocate, Simply Thick and Prevacid. Also mother to Nathan, born 12/06/06, who had mild reflux the first few months.
Sorry to hear about the poopy problem. Bananas are what we give Nathan when he has loose stools to harden them up. Probably she just had too many bananas without enough fiber to balance it out. Glad she is feeling better.

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
Glad she is feeling better. Thank goodness for suppositories. We like mineral oil too - works like a charm.

Bananas and carrots are constipating (bananas are also hard on reflux). I let my kids eat a banana only every few days. Well they really flared up Aubrey's reflux so now she won't eat them at all. Hope she gets regular soon!

Coyle Eagan. One Year Old. Doing well on Cow's Milk flavored with juice :) Drinking two bottles of Go&Grow daily. Eating solids better but still have rough days. No More Silent Reflux-that I can hear anyway.. but puking again. Zantac 2ML 2X daily.
yep. nanas are very contstipating.. think of the BRAT diet.. bananas, rice, apples, and toast. if she loves them so much you can just mix them in with oatmeal-not constipating-or even mash them in with prunes. my friends 18 mo. old STILL gets constipated from nanas...coy loves them too and he gets stopped up as well.

Can u give her prune juice? Just 15 ml does it for Meggy now that she doesn't eat dairy. Although I think it is pretty harsh on her system.

I am glad she is feeling better now.

Our 1 year old daughter has silent reflux, hypotonia as well as benign external hydrocephalus. We are currently weaning onto whole milk (we'll see if it works) and she is also on Prevacid 15mg per day.
Yeah if we let Keira have bananas it's mixed w/ oatmeal so that she'll go. She loves them but they don't love back! :P Sorry she had such a rough time of it.

ethan's mom
Meridith, mom to Ethan born 4/23/08. Ethan was diagnosed with reflux at about 1 month. He has been on Zantac (unsuccessful) and Prevacid. He is currently taking 7.5 mg of Prevacid 2x per day, with good results. We also suspect MPI, though this hasn't been confirmed by a doctor yet.
Ethan is mostly breastfed, though we are doing one bottle of soy formula each day. We also do some homeade "solids' including, so far pears, avocado, sweet potato, and peaches.

Poor little Joslyn. :(

I'm glad that she is getting back to normal. Pears are supposed to help, juice, or pureed, but you couldn't prove that to me. Ethan keeps struggling with constipation, even though he eats pears everyday. He loves them!

oh, I'm so glad she had a normal poopy. I don't have much experience in this department. If I notice the poop is hard, I give her baby food prunes. She doesn't much like them, but it only takes a little for Ror. Poor little thing. It sucks when they like something and you have to take it away :(.

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
Allie had constipation from the get-go, so as soon as I got the go-ahead to start prunes at 4 months, I did. So now if she gets anything constipating (apples, bananas, carrots, rice) I just make sure she gets a few spoonsful of prunes that day as well. Glad to hear she's better....I concur with miixing the bananas with something non-constipating (Allie loves stuff mixed up together anyway, so made it pretty easy for us)
Check with your
doctor first!
