Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
yeah right - she can eat what she wants!
Just got back from Katie's follow-up GI appt. We think we have the Prevacid right now at 45mg a day to heal up her tummy and esophogus.

The doc said she doesn't want her on a restricted diet now. So we are like oooo hurray. SHe had a chocolate chip cookie and is rolling over in pain.

I had misgiving about the advice. Oh well back to turkey and fruit.

I have 3 boys, youngest has gerd, 18 months of no sleep. Prevacid 2x/7.5 mg thinking of switching to prilosec.
Hi Katies mom. Sorry to hear she is suffering after your short lived celebration. How disappointing. I read that she didn't sleep for two yrs. When was she dxd and what test? David, my silent refxr has never been tested to show his problem is definately GER. His ped said yesterday she is not sure becz her other patients on prevacid do not have any complaints- all is perfect! Reading this web pg convinces me GER IS his problem. He's 18mo and nvr slept more than a 2 hr stretch. Ped thinks I should have "trained" him to sleep. If you could do it all over again would you have insisted Katie was tested earlier so you could know she had damage to her esoph.?

I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
poor baby can't even have a cookie! Bless her!

bib3mama- her pain seemed controlled for the first 1 1/2 years on prevacid and zantac. She was a just a crappy sleeper. Probably reflux related - I don't know. We had her cry it out and after 4 hours she fell asleep standing up in her crib. She is also very strong willed so who knows. SHe basically started sleeping when she got into a bed with a pillow.

My big mistake was that after she was weened off meds I ignored the signs that it was back. SHe basically went a year with me dealing with flare-ups as they came.

Sooooo by the time we knew there was a real problem again, it was a real problem. And the biggest issue is the wait time to see a GI. It was 5 months before she got her scope.

My advice would be to see a Pediatric GI sooner than later. They are much more knowledgeable about this disease.

Renee, mother to Nicholas, born 4/18/08 with silent reflux, moderate laryngomalacia, Sandifer's Syndrome& suspected MSPI. On Neocate, Simply Thick and Prevacid. Also mother to Nathan, born 12/06/06, who had mild reflux the first few months.
Oh, so sad that a cookie gave her pain! Poor baby! What a bummer!! Follow your instincts on this one. Hope she can enjoy some more "fun" foods before too long.

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
Well, nothing wrong with turkey and fruit! I am sort of annoyed at your GI for telling you to go ahead and jump back on the wagon so quickly. When we upped Sebastian's dose, we didn't see much improvement for a while. He also has internal damage like Katie, so he was taken off food in July - we were re-evaulated in October, and he is now off food until at least December. I know Katie is older and you can't/don't need to take her off food, but you would think that the GI would at least keep her on a very mild diet for a while - kind of like the big kid version of Sebastian's plan! Hugs to you and Katie!

Donnessa, mom to Halley born 3/10/07
Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
Poor baby! That really stinks. Hopefully she won't be turned off chocolate chip cookies forever like I am about marshmallows. Hope she does better tomorrow. Could you give her some Mylanta to help calm things down?

My previous drivers license was also stolen. The new one has extra security features on it.
I hope Katie feels better soon. It is so hard to see them enjoy something one minute only to have to pay for it the next.

I hope the new dosage will kick in soon and do her lots of good.

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
I'm no dr but why would you even try to put anyone on a reg. diet if they require prevacid? That doesn't even make good sense to me.

I'm sorry she's still having trouble. Hopefully she will heal up and be good as new soon! Hugs!

Check with your
doctor first!
