Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
Prayer request, please (allergies)
Hi all - I need to weigh in on lots of posts and will do so today, I hope. But I did want to put in a prayer request. One of my coworkers at the local community college just lost his son to a peanut reaction. I don't have many details (it seems wrong to ask, and I have grilled the admin asst as much as I can without being too aggressive), but I know that the son ate a food that contained peanuts EVEN THOUGH PEANUTS WERE NOT LISTED ON THE INGREDIENTS. I do not know if this was a food in a restaurant or a pre-packaged food, but I can tell you that as a mom of a child allergic to pretty much everything (it feels like, at least), I am TERRIFIED. My heart goes out to this professor's family.

I am sure they can probably sue or something, but come on. That doesn't erase the loss. This is just so horrible - and it is my worst fear confirmed. This poor family. I just can't believe it.

I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
oh my gosh. please if you can let them know we are so sorry for their loss and are saying prayers. just heart breaking

ethan's mom
Meridith, mom to Ethan born 4/23/08. Ethan was diagnosed with reflux at about 1 month. He has been on Zantac (unsuccessful) and Prevacid. He is currently taking 7.5 mg of Prevacid 2x per day, with good results. We also suspect MPI, though this hasn't been confirmed by a doctor yet.
Ethan is mostly breastfed, though we are doing one bottle of soy formula each day. We also do some homeade "solids' including, so far pears, avocado, sweet potato, and peaches.

They are in our prayers, and we'll put in a special request for protection of the little ones with food allergies.

Picture: This is what happens when you raise a kid on health food and they get ahold of a Coke! Bad mom, that soda is NOT on the reflux diet.
UPDATE: Isaiah is now 12 and off meds! He is doing great, eating again and hopefully will be catching up in the growing department. I am still in the "hoping it sticks" phase, but we're so happy that he's better!
Oh my....how heartbreaking! Oh, what a horrible thing. I don't blame you for feeling this extra hard, with your little one's allergies...how scary. I don't know why it is that allergies to food have become such an issue, but doesn't it seem like more and more kids have them now? I sure hope that we get some answers on this and maybe find a way to stop it, and certainly better ways to control allergies once you *do* have them. It's so frustrating, I feel like we take a chance every time we eat out or eat at someone else's house, or even buy a new product that *doesn't* list one of the allergens on it...you're right, who knows what might be in it? It's hard to find a balance between being terrified of every bite they eat and using reasonable caution. (((hugs))) to you, I'm so sorry to hear about your coworker's son.

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Oh I will def. pray! How terrible and I sure can't imagine how you're feeling right now. Hugs to you all! It scares me to death as a childcare provider. Just yesterday I was scanning a package for info on peanuts. It didn't list any so I gave the food to the kid. (it was a snack sent in by another parent) Maybe we should just get a written list of things the kid can't have to be on the safe side.

2 healthy daughters (knock wood) Cory (16), Kim (11) & Eric (4) diagnosed with e.e. (scoped 8/08), GERD & severe food/seasonal allergies, asthma. Cried non-stop first 17 mths. of life Found out he is allergic to cow's milk, soy, eggs, and peanuts. Takes Prevacid, Neocate One Plus & Flovent.
How sad.....and scary. I wonder if he had his EpiPen. Some kids think they are having an asthma attack (if they have asthma as well as peanut allergy) & they use their inhaler instead of the Epi. My heart goes out to them. Ellen
