new to posting and baby with reflux
This the first time I have made any kind of post on a forum. My son is 4 months old, and we found out he had acid reflux at 2 months old. He we first put on axid 2 times a day and after 4 doctors appointments and 3 changes to his baby formula, he is now on prevacid once a day and axid 3 times a day and is still spitting up half to 2/3 of his bottles. We now have a GI appointment set up for Nov 12. I guess the reason I posting is to get some advice from other mothers going through this. I have changed his bottles to dr. brown and bought the AR pillow for him to sleep. Does anyone have some advice for me?

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/jedd
I'd start asking about testing. Esp. testing for DGE )Delayed Gastric Emptying. Throwing up that much is a sign of slow motility through the GI tract ofr somewhere in there..LOL I would ask for an UGI (Upper GI) and a GES (Gastric Emptying Study) and go from there.

I'd also write down all my questions. GIs tend to want to get in and out of appt very quickly. That way you can make sure NOT to let the GI leave without getting all of them answered. Also, sometimes it's alot to take in and you will forget something...I have.

Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
Ohhhh, Jessica is soooo right! GI's are quickies...and they load you up with a lot of info and it's completly overwhelming and scary. She hit all the testing I would ask about, but I would also ask about upping the Prev. dosage, fortifying his food with a Benecal or Duocal powder while this is sorted out to provide some extra calories, ask about concentrating his formula (unless he's BF'd). We used a crib wedge for a long time...it's still in there, but it doesn't do much anymore he's so wiggly..we also fed him as sleepy as possible...we found the sleepier the better the bottles stayed down. We fed him in the bouncy chair..it was a little more upright than you holding him and it took the stress of off your arm and made you more prepared for puke...oh and buy lots of cheap towels. I know that's no consolation, but having less stains on your carpet can make you feel better, I swear.

hi and welcome. how much does he eat and what formula is he on now? my son vomiting profusely until we put him on alimentum. he still spit up but the volume decreased. could be dge as jessica said or a reaction to the formula.

Ditto Mom2coy. What formula? Have you considered the possibility of food allergy or intolerance? Mine both have structural reflux (they will never outgrow) but they had horrible puking whole feeds reflux when they were ingesting milk, soy, egg, etc.

Right now he is on Enfamil Lipil, but we tried soy and he still spits up just as much, if not more. We also tried the Nestle good start, and the last kind we tried was nutramigen, but he refused to eat it. I have started him on baby food and he seems to keep them down if he eats them alone, but if he has a bottle right after it, they usually come up to. Also, he has always been a quite baby, but in the past few days he has started this blood curdling scream that happens about 2-3 times a day and last about 10-15minutes. I am just so drained!!

Also i want to thank everyone for their advice. When my son was first dx with this, I felt like the doctors acted like it was no big deal and that the medicine should fix everything. After 4 appointment, they still felt like it was no big deal that the meds weren't working and that he would just grow out of it. It wasn't till today when I called them again that they referred me to a GI doctor. It is just nice to have people out there that are going through similar things and that I am not crazy for thinking some more going on that just giving medicine is going to help.
Check with your
