sharlin, mom to aviah, smith and faye (4/08)-dx with acid reflux (mostly silent) at 6 months.
Looking back I suspect she's been dealing with this for most of her little life. She's tried about every formula in the book and is currently on liquid alimentum, which has really helped a lot with her fighting feedings. We also tried zantac, but she became MUCH worse, and so we've been trying to work on helping her through her diet. she's also taking probiotics, and i'm hoping to get her eating some solids more regularly.
does anyone find the magical solution?
well, maybe not magical, but the solution that helps their baby to eat without pain? to be soothed at feeding time by getting their nutrition like normal babies are, or would that be hoping for something very unlikely to happen?

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
I'll say that many find it but the problem is: it's different for every baby. Somehow the magic is finding the combination that works for your baby. That's the aggravating part. Hugs!

well, thanks for the hope, anyway! if i know that if we just keep trying things, she's likely to be able to eat without pain, i can keep working at it. it would be discouraging to feel like she'll never really feel better and feedings will be painful and all day affairs until she's one. :(

Lorenzo b.4/25/07 1 week in NICU w/ aspirate pneumonia from a reflux episode; diagnosed GERD at 9weeks; Used Zantac for 5months. Currently using Chinese Medicine and Craniosacral Therapy. GERD, Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Sensory Processing Disorder. Ask me about breastfeeding a refluxer! Pic: day 5 in the NICU.
Check out my recent post on craniosacral therapy. There's of course no way to know if it would work in your situation, but it has been working wonders for us. To me, it's one of those, "can't hurt, might help" things....

ethan's mom
Meridith, mom to Ethan born 4/23/08. Ethan was diagnosed with reflux at about 1 month. He has been on Zantac (unsuccessful) and Prevacid. He is currently taking 7.5 mg of Prevacid 2x per day, with good results. We also suspect MPI, though this hasn't been confirmed by a doctor yet.
Ethan is mostly breastfed, though we are doing one bottle of soy formula each day. We also do some homeade "solids' including, so far pears, avocado, sweet potato, and peaches.

It's so hard that every baby seems to have a different solution. For us, the road to improvement has involved many gradual progresses, and there are still some to go. I guess the good news is that every little improvement helps Ethan's quality of life just a little more, and the change in just a few months is drastic. (hugs)

Sharlin, there is definitely hope! Mags is a success story. She was off meds by 11mos and is eating everything in sight. I will say that I sometimes think she's refluxing but nothing painful and no problems. I probably wouldn't even notice it if it hadn't been for her past.

It will get better :)

Check with your
doctor first!
