Aubrey
Guess I am a post hog today! Aubrey had therapy on Monday w/ her new therapist whom I love. He said if things aren't better in the speech dept within the next visit or two he will have the speech therapist come out. He also wanted to come out again when her behavioral therapist came out to see and hear what goes on there. So he did. He came out today and both of her therapists agreed that the OT needs to come back out and do an eval.

Her tantrums are worse (like the sensory ones) and although she is vocalizing more, she is not able to make certain sounds that she should. Aubrey sticks to the mmm or p sounds which are easier and don't involve tongue placement. They feel maybe her cheeks and mouth muscles are not as strong and that may be some of the delay.

Again very mixed emotions. I am so glad she is getting the help I just hate that MY baby has to go through this. It makes me sad, angry and mad. I just want to scream sometimes that things don't come easy for her. Guess I am having a bad day. On top of her GI issues and then being hit with this....UGH! I am glad the therapists are on top of it and wanting to rule out everything!

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Yeah, I'm glad she finally has a GOOD therapist that seems to have her best interest at heart. Hopefully because you're such a good mommy, you'll get all this out of the way for her before it's a an even bigger problem in school. You know what I mean...Hugs!

Lorenzo b.4/25/07 1 week in NICU w/ aspirate pneumonia from a reflux episode; diagnosed GERD at 9weeks; Used Zantac for 5months. Currently using Chinese Medicine and Craniosacral Therapy. GERD, Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Sensory Processing Disorder. Ask me about breastfeeding a refluxer! Pic: day 5 in the NICU.
((HUGS)) It really suck to watch your child struggle...it's so painful, and the desire to "make it right" is so strong... You're doing great by her -- getting her the help she needs, enduring the days when you'd like very much to run away from home... Hang in there!

Coyle Eagan. One Year Old. Doing well on Cow's Milk flavored with juice :) Drinking two bottles of Go&Grow daily. Eating solids better but still have rough days. No More Silent Reflux-that I can hear anyway.. but puking again. Zantac 2ML 2X daily.
i'm sorry that aubrey is having such a hard time:( i understand what you mean about feeling frustrated, hurt, and sad. we all go through it and so days (for me atleast) are worse than others. could she be having tantrums because she is frustrated about communicating? i hope the ST helps out. good to hear you are still making progress with the new OT.

Ugh, i just read both your posts, sounds like things aren't going so great right now. Glad she is getting the tx and that you have people who are on top of it! A lot of kids with speech delay stick to the bilabial sounds (p,b,m) at first....does not necessarily mean she has oral motor weakness...but since she has low muscle tone in other areas of her body, it is worth checking out! Will she imitate sounds and mouth movements for you? If so, there are lots of little exercises you can do.

She is getting to where when you have her watch your mouth she does move hers too. It is not like I move mine, but she is trying. When she does it she doesn't make a sound tho. Does that make sense. Both therapist see that she is receptive so at least we have that in our court. She does babble a lot but has not progressed much. i have been keeping a journal of her words and she says maybe 20 which is on the low end. Their concern is that she does use the p and m sounds when she should be able to make the correct sounds. She also will not refer to herself or say her name.
Check with your
doctor first!
