I have 3 boys, youngest has gerd, 18 months of no sleep. Prevacid 2x/7.5 mg thinking of switching to prilosec.
HELP! 18 mo psycho night! becz of a cold?
My 18 mo son came down with a cold last night. Oh my goodness, you would think he was been poked with a hot iron. He screamed inconsolably and arched and writhed. I usually breastfeed him to sleep in bed and I sleep with him. But he was frustrated with his runny nose and he could not fall asleep unless I held him upright. This is fine except that he woke up his usual one hour later and went through the same cycle of screaming, arching, etc..And again one hour later. I thought we'd be done with the inconsolable screaming since he is walking, talking, eats real food, etc. What a disappointment! When will this end? He is usually happy. Nights have been a nightmare for 18 months. I don't want to cry it out- what if he is in pain? But I am sooooooo sick of this!

Coyle Eagan. One Year Old. Doing well on Cow's Milk flavored with juice :) Drinking two bottles of Go&Grow daily. Eating solids better but still have rough days. No More Silent Reflux-that I can hear anyway.. but puking again. Zantac 2ML 2X daily.
my son's reflux is always worse during a cold. think about having all that drainage! it stinks! poor baby. maybe you can give him some mylanta? sleeping with a humidifier with that vicks in it always helps us.

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site:
Yep, the extra drainage from a cold always drives Jedd's relfux up.

We do a cool mist humidifier, I put Vick's on his chest. and I do a plug in into the wall of vapors as well. That seems to help some.

I hope it passes fast, colds are so hard and what with Winter coming....we aren't looking forward to it either.

Since you co sleep maybe proping yourself on pillows and rubbing vicks on your chest and laying him on you will help him get the elevation he needs and you some sleep. Good luck. I hope today is better.

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
I'm so sorry :( Colds, teething, or any other illness will make reflux flare. When Maggie is stuffy I run a humidifier and still tilt her bed so everything will stay down better. Last year I used those vapor fans. I think they are by vicks. You just slide a little refill in and turn it on. It's not a plug in thing. they are verrrrry strong though! I always made sure Maggie's door was opened when I used those.

Lorenzo b.4/25/07 1 week in NICU w/ aspirate pneumonia from a reflux episode; diagnosed GERD at 9weeks; Used Zantac for 5months. Currently using Chinese Medicine and Craniosacral Therapy. GERD, Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Sensory Processing Disorder. Ask me about breastfeeding a refluxer! Pic: day 5 in the NICU.
Yes, colds make my little guy max out at one hour of sleep (and I mean one hour for the night) at their worst. Every time he gets one, I feel like just keeping us isolated until he turns 18.. We use a hot bath just before bed, and then vicks vapo rub and Hylands HOmeopathic Sniffles and Sneezes. Sometimes that helps...

My son is almost 18 months old and has terrible sleep, co-sleeps and breastfeeds -- we should talk!!!
