GI Called
So basically Dr. I. said Abdominal migraines are a diagnosis when everything else is ruled out. That Dx is kinda like a "catch-all" for random tummy aches with specific symptoms that happen in kids that can talk. Even though it is a real diagnosis with a real treatment, it is rare that a almost 2 year old would have them.

Also, he said since migraines are not genetic (even though i had them as a child, my mom gets them dh's mom and brother and uncle get them), you really can't go off of family history.

He really does not think her symptoms are related to abdominal migraines. In other words, he thinks it's something more specifically diagnosable. What it is, we have yet to figure that out...

What the call basiclly came down to is that he thinks it might *just* be her CSID and that it is food (sugar) related. CSID causes reflux, stomach pain, bloating, irritability. and if i fed her foods i was not aware had too much sugar in them then that would explain her symptoms and also explain her swinging back and forth between diarrheas (or really loose stools) and constipation.

So the two things i am to do this week are to keep a food/"emily day" journal and report back to Dr. I. in a week. we'll see what happens then...

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
Sounds like a good plan. I really hope that Dr.I. can figure out what is going on. Good luck with the food diary.

By the way, did they give you a food diary to use? There is a good one on the prevacid.com site.

Why does he think migraines aren't genetic??? Odd....google it yourself, it IS hereditary..here's a good links though: http://headaches.about.com/od/migrainediseas1/a/what_abdom_mx.htm... http://www.webmd.com/migraines-headaches/news/20020226/genetic-link-to-migraine-found.......4 out of every 5 people with migraines have family history......Anyway, I hope they are on the way to figuring out how to make her feel better(((hugs)))It definately sounds like it may be the CSID..

julie- thanks i will go look at the prevacid. com website, i had just been writing everything in a notebook; have been off and on (lately more off then on) since she was born pretty much lol

jessica- yeah i haven't looked into it that much but i thought that migraines were genetically linked too. i was surprised when he said they weren't. But i guess it's like reflux, some drs say yes to genetics and some say no.

i would really like to believe it is just CSID but I am SO careful with her diet. and the fact that she gets pale and has sunken dark circle eyes and just dosen't feel well, often enough to be noted, just dosen't seem to fit as a CSID symptom. I just have a feeling it's something else.
