alex's mom
Alex was dx with silent reflux at 3 weeks old. Previously on Prevacid SoluTabs 15mg daily, now on trial of no medication. Was thought to have oral aversion, saw feeding specialist who says he's just not interested in food--no aversion at all. Slowly coming around to food. 15 months, 19lbs, 7 oz.
Zack's mom
Hi! The pics of Zack are so adorable! I love his eyes! I feel your pain. Alex used to take 24 oz/day when he was about 6 months (which wasn't a lot), then he dropped to 18oz at 9-12mo and now he will take about 8-10oz. Sigh. I feel like we are going down hill. And those thoughts scare me as well. He will eat some food but will only take a couple of spoonfuls. I can't tell if he has true oral aversion (like something hurts him) or if it is more behavioral (like he has had bad experiences). I'm just so frustrated this morning. He had a weigh in yesterday and is 18lbs, 1oz (yay! but of course I question whether he was on the scale long enough to get an accurate reading, etc). I will take whatever I can get. I'm happy for the weight gain and thought "Finally, we're on the road up" but after this morning it has soured my mood. He only took 5 oz of formula and 1 spoon of bananas. Sigh. I know that Zack doesn't take any so I'm sorry to even have you hear about my complaints. I'm just frustrated. What is in store for your little one, outside of all the feeding therapy? I ask because my GI doc thinks that long term Alex will need a G tube if he doesn't continue to gain more weight. However, my pediatrician thinks that Alex is perfectly fine and that my hovering while he eats causes more aversion. I can agree with both docs. I obviously dont want a g tube so I'm willing to try but since I"m the only one at home, who else is gonna feed my child! Thanks for making me smile by referring to Alex as huge! Your son is on his way! Have a great high calorie day!

Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
Thankfully, no one is discussing a g-tube for us at this point. Although Z is small, he has fat stores and eats "enough"...we definitely have a combo oral aversion...pain from the reflux and behavioural as well...it's a learned behavior. We have started feeding therapy and so far it's not helping, but it's a start...we are nibbling on crackers...and i mean nibbling...if I ever saw him eat a whole cracker my head would explode. I try not to be concerned with the weight gain, but I am. We have the lab tests tomorrow...I just pray that there's onthihng big going on...I just want him to outgrow this stupidd reflux...I think it's the main source for everything wrong. Zack drinks about 26 oz a day of formula...we had 28 yesterday, it was very exciting. I just feel like I am feeding him 24 hrs a day!!! I wish I could see a year into the future...*sigh* Good luck to us! Keep me up to date!

I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
I think we need to set up an arranged date with our 2 babies! For the future of course!!!!! With both of their eyes... can you imagine?! hehe
