Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
Alex's MomOur sons are pretty similar. However if I could get my son to eat ANYTHING i would be excited. He gags and vomits at the sight of the spoon and bowl and if he gets anything more than a fingernail sizze of food in there he gags and vomits...it's pretty awful. I have written down every ounce he has ever eaten since birth...well, since he came hoime, he was in the NICU for a month. It's not so much for the normal days that are 24ish oz. It's for the bad days like yesterday which was barely 16. Those days scare me.
It does sound like your son has an oral aversion. I have been trying to get ahold of Early Intervention here in SOCAL for two months and i've never even gotten a call back. Z looks like a happy normal kid, but his feeding issues are pretty bad. We started feeding therapy..but we've only been twice, so no miracles there. Good luck to both of us. Keep in touch!
P.S. Your son is HUGE...mine's only 16.5! lol

Alex was dx with silent reflux at 3 weeks old. Previously on Prevacid SoluTabs 15mg daily, now on trial of no medication. Was thought to have oral aversion, saw feeding specialist who says he's just not interested in food--no aversion at all. Slowly coming around to food. 15 months, 19lbs, 7 oz.
|Hi! The pics of Zack are so adorable! I love his eyes! I feel your pain. Alex used to take 24 oz/day when he was about 6 months (which wasn't a lot), then he dropped to 18oz at 9-12mo and now he will take about 8-10oz. Sigh. I feel like we are going down hill. And those thoughts scare me as well. He will eat some food but will only take a couple of spoonfuls. I can't tell if he has true oral aversion (like something hurts him) or if it is more behavioral (like he has had bad experiences). I'm just so frustrated this morning. He had a weigh in yesterday and is 18lbs, 1oz (yay! but of course I question whether he was on the scale long enough to get an accurate reading, etc). I will take whatever I can get. I'm happy for the weight gain and thought "Finally, we're on the road up" but after this morning it has soured my mood. He only took 5 oz of formula and 1 spoon of bananas. Sigh. I know that Zack doesn't take any so I'm sorry to even have you hear about my complaints. I'm just frustrated.
What is in store for your little one, outside of all the feeding therapy? I ask because my GI doc thinks that long term Alex will need a G tube if he doesn't continue to gain more weight. However, my pediatrician thinks that Alex is perfectly fine and that my hovering while he eats causes more aversion. I can agree with both docs. I obviously dont want a g tube so I'm willing to try but since I"m the only one at home, who else is gonna feed my child!
Thanks for making me smile by referring to Alex as huge! Your son is on his way!||Check with your
