OT-old caesarean scar/TMI
I had my caesarean 17 months and 11 days ago. There was one spot about 1/4 inch wide that had taken months to heal. Strangely enough that spot just re-opened without any trauma to the area. It had what appeared to be a hair in it, but hair doesn't usually grow in scars.

I tried to remove it but it wouldn't budge, and it popped up in another area as well and now it has some blood.

I was told that they had used the stitches that dissolve. Is it possible that they used the wrong type of material for the stitches and it is still there?

I have had pain in the area since the caesarean was performed and was told it was just my interstitial cystitis pain and endometriosis acting up and nothing more.

I have also been told there was an abnormal growth in my uterus months ago. I hope it is not stitches that should only be used on the outside of the body and removed.

Wow, I know I am a mess. I hope all of you are not getting tired of hearing my fussiness.

Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
I would get myself to the OBGYM asap...they should do an ultrasound and see what's going on in there! Good luck...and you're not whiny!

Picture: This is what happens when you raise a kid on health food and they get ahold of a Coke! Bad mom, that soda is NOT on the reflux diet.
UPDATE: Isaiah is now 12 and off meds! He is doing great, eating again and hopefully will be catching up in the growing department. I am still in the "hoping it sticks" phase, but we're so happy that he's better!
I agree, go in! I actually had a similar problem...I had my tubes tied after my last baby. The only incision was under my navel, and that healed up fine...the stitches dissolved on the outside just fine, but I had some strange pain off and on for months. Then, one of the lovely stretch marks I have started to really hurt and itch. The mark was around where my tubes would have been tied...months later it bled and I could see what looked like a fiber of some sort, and eventually it worked its way out and I'm pretty certain it was a suture! I think some people just don't do well with foreign bodies of any type in them, and rather than form scar tissue *around* them they push it out instead. I don't know enough to tell you to not worry, though, and I'd say if the scar is opening at all and if there may be some other problem going on with your uterus I'd head right in and have them take a look. Let us know what happens!

The OB/gyn nurse says it is no big deal just from talking to me on the phone and wants me to wait a week to be seen. She wouldn't really comment on what it might be.

Meds: Nexium 10mg 2x daily. Carafate as needed, miralaxx as needed, probiotics daily
Yuck. That sounds rough. I'm dealing with the female issues right now too. I agree with Erica about it possibly being a stich. Why is it, that if you aren't pg, you generally get blown off by the obgyn nurse!?! I go see my obgyn tomorrow. I have severe endo and pretty sure I have IC though I have never been dx. Also, I think my uterus is falling. Not good, so I understand the fussiness! My nurse told me on Fri when I called, "this is the same thing we dealt with in july, and there isn't anything we can do for you if your breastfeeding!" I quickly replied, "this is the same THING I have been dealing with since I was 14" and asked when I good see the dr ASAP. It is so frustrating!!! Hugs

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
Even though they are "supposed" to dissolve, many times they don't if the tissue starts to adhere to them. I wouldn't worry much unless you see signs of infection, but I'd go in just in case.

Renee, mother to Nicholas, born 4/18/08 with silent reflux, moderate laryngomalacia, Sandifer's Syndrome& suspected MSPI. On Neocate, Simply Thick and Prevacid. Also mother to Nathan, born 12/06/06, who had mild reflux the first few months.
I have seen something similar to what you've described in some of my patients-a stitch that didn't dissolve. They aren't c-section scars, but sutures are sutures. I'd get it looked at but probably not much to worry about. Just your body trying to rid itself of a foreign substance most likely.

Kathryn, Pager Volunteer and mommy to Emily Mia 02/04/07. 3 years old with GERD. 30mg Prevacid and Pepcid AC. Mylanta needed for flares. Failed prilosec med switch. Tried and failed many med weans but GERD and pain are well controlled. Functional constipation. Reoccurring SBBO. Suspected IBD or autoimmune disease. Resolved issues: MSPI, CSID (acquired), Stage 2 kidney reflux, Chronic diarrhea.
Audrey Meadow 06/20/08. born 34/35 weeks. Still b/f and eats everything! ftt and chronic constipation.
my body rejects dissolvable sutures. i had oral surgery and had a bad infection in my mouth b/c of dissovable sutures not dissolving. My body builds tissue around it and starts attacking itself. Same thing when i gave birth to emily, the midwife decided to be nice and suture some superficial tears, well they got infected too... Anyway it kinda sounds like you might have the same thing, you should tell you dr about it asap b/c it can get worse, way way worse if that's what it is. not trying to scare you at all, just worried! i really hope its nothing that crazy though.

Thank you everyone. I will have to wait the week to see the doc. Even if I see a new one, it will take that long to get in, unless I go to ER or urgent care and then I am sure I wouldn't get anywhere with them either.

Have a good evening.

With my last 3 pregnancies I had sections. I also had a different incision with each. My incision from Brad (now 5) still bleeds and has permanent nerve damage. There are still dissolveable sutures in there 5 years later. My body like Kat rejects anything like that foreign and gets infected. My GYN said until my body rids them all it will bleed like that. Sometimes it does help to go in since if it is barely covered they can remove it there. HTH. My Maddie has had 10 sets of ear tubes due to something similar to this. Around a year after the insertion of the permanent T tubes her body begins to reject them and her ears bleed profusely until they are removed. The last removal we trialed for 6 wks w/o tubes. Needless to say she had her 10th set the day before the babies were born. Like mother like daughter. She follows me and I follow my Mom who does this too. email me if you have any more questions.
