Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
Just when you think...
that everything is on track and improving...everything goes wrong. Zack had SUCH a good week...he was doing 26-31 ounces a day all week...he's NEVER done 30 oz and he had TWO days like that...it was awesome. Feeding therapy gave us some good suggestions and he tried some fingernail pieces of bread and he didn't gag..he chewed a small bite off a teething biscuit and didn't gag...oh and a teeny piece of ritz cracker. Well yesterday morning was ok, but things went downhill fast. He wouldn't eat much at all all day..I noticed around four that I saw a tooth ocming in...seriously I just HATE teeth...HATE THEM. They ruin everything...that may sound juvenile, but I would also like to punch all the people that say teething symptoms are a myth...come check my kid out when tooth is coming in...fever, crank, diarreah, misery, no sleep, no food...PUKE..refluxing stomach acid all night...oh yeah, it's a myth alright. Well, Z took in about 16 oz yesterday total, so any weight gain fm the 30 oz days is wiped out now. He didn't eat well this morning, but at least he was less cranky and he was fine when I dropped him off... I finally said F it last night and I gave the kid the only thing he would open his mouth for...about four teeny bites of ice cream. and I mean teeny...but who knows, I probably made things worse with the lactose. I'm just so fried..he woke up at 4 and I've been up since then, I just want to curl up in a ball and cry...I saw a woman at McDonald's feeding her son a mcmuffin and I was just in tears...it's not fair that my poor kid screams bloody murder at the sight of food... Sorry, no need to comment...I just needed to "virtually" scream this morning...It's just so frustrating. No one understands except this group...If I hear one more time...yeah, my little girl is a picky eater, too. PICKY???? If there was ONE thing that Z would eat I would buy it in bulk...just ONE thing. Someone please tell me this gets better.

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
I hear you on the teething. So sorry Sebastian's twin brother from another mother is having such a tough go at it. Keeping you both in my thoughts.

(And my the way, I understand how you feel about the McMuffi. We can't do that, either, as Sebastian is extremely allergic to egg and allergic to wheat. We don't even eat around him much, let alone take him to restaurants. i know that isn't the same situation as yours with Zack, but it is a feeding problem nonehtless. But look at it this way - do you really want your kid eating McMuffins?)

at this point...a happy meal would be a HAPPY meal! I would love to be able to bribe him with ANYTHING! I am glad though that the allergies don't seem as bad as his head trip. I think the head trip is easier to overcome...at least I can try different things...but your boy is BIG...he could eat my boy!! lol

Sorry for such a rough time. Teething is no joke. Meggy is working on her canines now.

I think it does get better, we just have to keep counting on that and believing in it.

I am sending good thoughts and prayers your way.

I know what you mean - any meal would be a happy meal! I am actually scared of food when it comes to him, though, which is BAD. I am probably setting him up for his own feeding issues since he is going to be at least 15 months of age before we try food again...so I might come looking to you for help by then! But God, I hope not!

(Zack, Sebastian wants to know what is up)

Zack says "Hey Baz, brutha...things are cool with my mom at work...no one shoving a bottle in my face and I can just work on destroying things! Woohoo! (P.S. If YOU think you're setting your kid up for aversion, you can only imagine what I am doing...i try really hard not to force feed, but when he WON'T eat, it is sooo hard)

alex's mom
Alex was dx with silent reflux at 3 weeks old. Previously on Prevacid SoluTabs 15mg daily, now on trial of no medication. Was thought to have oral aversion, saw feeding specialist who says he's just not interested in food--no aversion at all. Slowly coming around to food. 15 months, 19lbs, 7 oz.
I feel your pain :)
Hi Zack's Mom! I'm new to this forum and I think it is a great site. I just wanted to say thanks for sharing your day! My son is only a couple of weeks younger than Zack and I have the same feeding issues. I have been trying everything to get Alex to eat and like, you, would easily buy it in bulk. I thought Mac and Cheese was the "one" for us and now he seems to be bored with it (which is normal, I think) so I'm off to find something else. Sigh. The days are tough for us because everything is a battle to eat or even take the bottle. My son doesn't take either "easily". Everybody just says he is "picky" and I'm like "well, you try to feed him". He always has at least 3 items on his tray of which he eats none! I love that you too can rattle off how many ounces your son has taken...I have learned how many calories are in simple foods. I understand the McDonald's thing, I teared up at the grocery store when I saw a 2 years old holding his own bottle and drinking it happily! The docs think Alex might have oral aversion so I'm trying to "stay relaxed" which is very hard for me during his feedings time and not try to force him. Good luck with your feedings! You are in my thoughts!
Check with your
doctor first!
