Our 1 year old daughter has silent reflux, hypotonia as well as benign external hydrocephalus. We are currently weaning onto whole milk (we'll see if it works) and she is also on Prevacid 15mg per day.
To wean or not to wean...that is the question
So Keira's GI said we could take her off Prevacid at one year. I don't know if I want to try it or not. She's tolerating whole milk great now but is that due to the Prevacid or just that she's outgrowing her old issues? She tolerates juices and even cinnamon (which KILLS me w/ my reflux even when on my reflux meds). I dunno....Is it wrong of me to just want to keep her on it for a little while longer?

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
Great news about the milk and cinnamon!

Not sure what you should do...maybe try decreasing her dose sllloooowwwwllly ? I probably am not in a place to give advuce because Sebastian's dose was upped when he was nearly a year old. All kids are different, I suppose. But yay for her progress!!

I missed this earlier but I wanted to tell you that I have so been there. But I found it helpful to at least try. If it doesn't work then it doesn't take anytime to get them back on track again. The first med wean I did I cut out a 1/4 solutab in the am with in a week he had wet burps and bad breath. I went right back to his full dose and in a day he was back to his old self. I also found that it was so helpful to be able to go back to the doc at his 9 mon. check with the info that I at least tried it. That way she was very willing to renew the RX. You will never know if she is ready until you try it. That is great news about the milk and cinnamon. And if it doesn't work you wait a little while and try again. Look at Nolan he is down a 1/2 soloutab and in a week or so I'm cutting down more. It is scarey but you don't want her on meds she doesn't need right? JMHO.
Check with your
doctor first!
