Adriane Reese 05/16/07; seemingly healthy when born; diagnosed with MSPI, severe Reflux, Apnea, Ashtma, Epilepsy, and severe food allergies(rice, corn, milk, soy, eggs, oats, wheat, beef, chicken, squash, pumpkin, avocado, etc.);On apnea monitor, seems to be tolerating RCF w/carbohydrate mixed in; on Zyrtec, Xopenex, Prevacid
Thickening formula
Okay, so A's reflux has really flared lately. We just started back on the Zantac but I'm still noticing alot of wet burps, even had spit up last night, hiccups, night wakings and screams. So, since she is on a totally liquid diet, has been for at least a month, and will be for at least another month or more, what can I put in her formula to thicken it. The problem I have is her allergies. She is allergic to oats, corn, soy, eggs, wheat, beef, nuts, and rice. So, i need something that isn't going to set her off. Oh, and those are just the anaphlactic ones. have any of you had any thickeners that work well with allergy babies. something that is easy to break down?

Poor little sweetie :-(. Have you tried Simply Thick? I'm not sure what's in it, but I know that Jen has had good luck with it and Aubrey is MSPI.

Simply thick would be the least allergenic, our dr advised against any other thickener early on because Brent was so allergic.

Renee, mother to Nicholas, born 4/18/08 with silent reflux, moderate laryngomalacia, Sandifer's Syndrome& suspected MSPI. On Neocate, Simply Thick and Prevacid. Also mother to Nathan, born 12/06/06, who had mild reflux the first few months.
We use and love the Simply Thick. It's easy to adjust to the desired thickness. For us, we also like that it has no calories. We had been thickening with rice for Nicholas and he put on a lot of weight and the rice didn't work anywhere near as well as the Simply Thick for reducing the amount of spit up and reflux that occurred. We tried it the first time with the individual packets and liked it so much now we have the big pump on the counter. Pump is much simpler. Thick-it brand had corn in it. Good luck!

We use Simply Thick. It's so easy to titrate for thickness and it didn't mess with my son's stomach like ThickIt and others did (due to the corn I believe).
