Our 1 year old daughter has silent reflux, hypotonia as well as benign external hydrocephalus. We are currently weaning onto whole milk (we'll see if it works) and she is also on Prevacid 15mg per day.
Pain reliever question
Keira might have an ear infection but I'm not sure yet. From noon till 7pm she was super fussy. Then I fed her and she was asleep in no time so I put her to bed and w/in 15 minutes she was crying like crazy. I went in there and told her it was ok and rubbed her feet and then left. Ten minutes later she was crying again. So far we've made it to 20 minutes and she's still sleeping. I thought you could mix tylenol w/ motrin of course spacing it out? The nurses at the children's hospital nurse line said no. But they've also said that you can't give infant vitamins to children and then one time they said that if Keira had itchy eyes she could have menengitis?!? When I asked the pedi about vitamins he said that was great by him and about the itchy eyes-allergies. Good grief. If she has a rough night we'll be at the pedi office first thing in the morning.

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
Our ped gave us the green light for alternating Tylenol and Motrin every two hours...but he also told us that you can give Tylenol more times in a day than you can Motrin (check the bottle). Sorry Keira is having a tough time. I wish I could help, but Sebastian acts like that ear infection or not lately. Poor kid - I hope she feels better soon.

Yeah she pretty much wanted me to hold her all afternoon. Even that didn't seem to make her feel better but that's what she wanted. I hate when I can't fix the problem. Poor kid. I hope Sebastian feels better soon too- is he still on Zyrtec these days?

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
I'm no dr!!! Let me stress that, lol. I have been told by several drs and nurses that it's ok to alternate tylenol and motrin every 3-4 hrs for a high fever. Now for pain....I don't know if I'd do it that often. I'd try the regular dosing and see how it goes. IMO, if the tylenol/motrin helps- I bet she does have something going on. Maggie's ent said that when the pain reliever helps, it's a definite sign. HTH...hugs! Hope she sleeps!

Nope, no Zyrtec for Sebastian. We tried for about a week a llooooonnngggg time ago, and he reacted HORRIBLY...he got really hyper and MAD. He just couldn't calm down. Turns out it is in the same class as Benadryl, and he has the same reactions to that. So we do Singulair 4mg granules in the evening bottle...

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/jedd
We rotate every 4 hours ecept when the fever keep coming back and then we go to every 3 hours between the two type of meds/doses.

As far as vitamins. Jedd took vitamins from about 11 months old. We did the liquid Poly-vi-Sol ones (generic). They taste nasty...really nasty. At about 15months we switched him to Flinstone vit. But I buy the generic and crush them into Jedd's foods since he won't chew them...LOL He takes 1/2 tablet a day.

Thanks Well she ended up sleeping all night so maybe it was just a fluke. I thought maybe she had an ear infection as she was fussy all afternoon and then into the evening. But eventually she went to sleep so....nothing needed but thanks for the info for future reference. Seems we did that rotation when she had a double ear infection but that was quite awhile back. ;)
Check with your
doctor first!
