Prevacid, ins....vent
I don't understand ins. comp. Ours paid Nolan's prevacid 100% until this refill time and now they don't want to pay any of it!!!! WTH? They told me to find something else. The doc and pharmacist are looking into it. The pharmacist wants us to go back to prilosec. I said no, it wasn't effective. I know I am in the process of weaning but I still feel we need to give him his am dose for a few weeks to let his body get used to cutting out the night time dose. So I called the ins. company myself and she was a very nice lady and she is going to look into what we can do. She thinks she can get it approved until the first of the year. I am sitting here waiting for her to call back. The doctor had to send in a letter stating that he really needs this med. What I can't figure out is what the prescription means then...It means the doctor says he needs this med but it is negotiatable(sp)? Do ins. comps think that the docs find the most expensive med to hand out to patients. If there was something else we would gladly use it. I am just frustrated and I don't want to see Nolan in pain or the med wean be unsuccessfull because we had to switch meds. KWIM? I feel we are close to being off meds and things are going good so why would we switch meds? UGH UGH UGH! Sorry to complain but it is just sooo frustrating.

Adriane Reese 05/16/07; seemingly healthy when born; diagnosed with MSPI, severe Reflux, Apnea, Ashtma, Epilepsy, and severe food allergies(rice, corn, milk, soy, eggs, oats, wheat, beef, chicken, squash, pumpkin, avocado, etc.);On apnea monitor, seems to be tolerating RCF w/carbohydrate mixed in; on Zyrtec, Xopenex, Prevacid
I'm sorry you are having to deal with that now. It is weird that they didn't ask for this before since they have been paying for it this whole time. I know that we have several meds that our insurance requires a letter from the doc every so often. I think it is ridiculous also. It is really funny when they try to tell you to try something over the counter first. As if you you would go through trying to get this prescription and paying for it if you had not already tried the over the counter stuff! The do this with most of Morgan and I's asthma meds. It is very frustrating. The good thing is that if they write the letter you will have it resolved quickly. Good Luck! -Amanda

6 mons ago they wrote the letter but now they say they changed their list of meds( formulated list or something like that) So the doc sent a new letter and they still wouldn't pay. I'm hoping to get a call today that the ins. lady figured it out.

Mary & Nicholas 7-17-03 (non-refluxer)allergies, asthma on Singulair and Flovent & Aidan 1-28-07(my refluxer)Nissen Fundoplication on June 20, 2008, FTT, MSPI, DGE, ear tubes, allergies and severe GERD now currently taking just Prevacid and drinking Elecare Vanilla 1+.
My insurance co did the same thing a while back they changed there formulary to include Nexium instead of Prevacid. Luckily we only pay $27 for a months worth if we still want it and our ped just special ordered a bunch for us for free since he determined we do indeed need it. We also got some free samples from the GI. I am sorry insurance can be such a pain. I hope they call you soon.

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
It is so unbelievable. I don't understand why prevacid is so often not covered. This is the key to our cure.

I did go to prevacid.com to get the savings card but haven't used it yet.

I hope you have luck with he insurance company.

There should be some lobbyist out there fighting for this shouldn't there be???
