Mom to Peter - 10 months old with reflux on prevacid and dairy allergy
Peter Update
I wrote on this board a few times a month ago about my son Peter who was having great difficulty with reflux despite prevacid. I wanted to give everyone the update since you all were so helpful.

Peter saw the GI doctor (after a 2 month wait) and they recommended avoiding dairy. I had already been doing this, but apparently I was missing a few things (they're so sneaky!), so we switched him to soy formula as I couldn't pump anymore. He seems to be doing much better. Much, much better. It even seems to be helping decrease his food intake. He was taking in an inordinate amount of food. The GI doc thinks he had inflammation from dairy in his intestines as well and hasn't been absorbing his food well.

We also saw an allergist. He did some testing. Still waiting to hear on a few of the reasults. He is concerned Peter has eosinophilic esophagitis, which we very much hope he doesn't have. We're encouraged that he seems to be doing better on the soy formula and we'll just have to wait and see. We're hoping to avoid having to have the upper GI endoscopy. If its necessary we'll do it, but that would be required to diagnose EE and it requires general anesthesia, so we're trying to steer clear if possible.

So that's everything. Thanks for all of your encouragement. He's doing much better. We're just on the wait and see game. He's always been a bit cyclical with his symptoms, so we'll just hold the course. Thanks to everyone for their help!

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Hi! I remember you! It's so nice to hear a good update :)

Sometimes for these little ones, I think formula can be a good thing. I strongly believe if I had given up breastfeeding, my dd would've gotten better even sooner than she did.

Keep us posted on how the "cycle" goes and it definitely is a cycle. Some call it a roller coaster. Hugs!

My name is being used fraudently to ill represent me. Please be cautious of any information you receive with my name. including engi.nowaira.net, engi@nowaira.net, Engi@nowaira.us, anything from anyone claiming to be Engi Nowaira online. Otherwise, I will be representing myself in person so that everyone will have opportunity to identify me in person.
My previous drivers license was also stolen. The new one has extra security features on it.
It is good to be headed in the right direction. While EE Is not a pleasant diagnosis, (if that is what it is) Knowing what is wrong and working toward wellness is great. And knowing sooner rather than later is even better.

Hugs! Wishing you and your family the best.

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
So happy to hear the Peter is making improvements. Isn't it amazing how much havoc the dairy can wreak on their digestive systems?

It is a roller coaster but we are all in our little cars ready to give support.
