Aubrey's new therapist-Some good some bad...
Let me start out by saying her new therapist is AWESOME!!! I loved him. He really worked with Aubrey and gave me some fresh ideas on how to "work" with her. He was sweating by the time he left-that is how hard he worked! Now for the bad part...she is delayed in her speech. He confirmed what my mommy instincts have told me. The great part is he gave me specific things to do with her and how long I should spend on each activity. He gave me some flash cards and pulled out the ones he wanted me to start with (sounds which she does not imitate at all not even animal sounds and shapes). He told me how to do to it to make it fun.

I was given an order in which to do things. For example we are to go up and down the stairs at least 2 times and then sit down play with a ball or something. Next we will do flashcard work for a period of time then play again. End it with one more trip up and down the stairs.

I am sad that there is one more thing to add to her "list" of issues but I am glad that the problem has been addressed. If that makes sense. Her last therapist was HORRIBLE. This one kept asking if she had ever done this or that or given me this or that or had me do this or that. His jaw dropped more and more when I kept saying no.

I guess my days alone with her will be spent on more therapy!

Tracey, mom to Katie. Diagnosed with reflux at 3 weeks and put on Zantac. At 8 months old she was removed from Zantac as it was giving her migraines, currently on Prevacid. Switched to Elecare since she is not gaining weight; trialing solids after being off for a month. Geneticist said reason she isn't gaining weight is she is stubborn. Upcoming appts.: Neurologist for developmental delay and EGD scheduled for September. She is one funny baby!
Yay for liking him and that he is doing his job!

I am so glad you found a really good therapist. We had an awful therapist that wasn't overly friendly and would never come out and on days she did was 15 minutes late. Donnie was supposed to have speech therapy once a week on Wed for an hour. She would call every week and not come or change it to a day that was better for her. When she did come out it would be for about 30-45 mins and then wouldn't work directly with Donnie but rather sit on the couch the whole time. She would have me sign blank sheets of paper and would go back "when she had time" and fill it out so there is no telling what she doctored the paperwork to say. I am just so glad you have a therapist that is willing to work hard. I think it makes all the difference. I feel like that since Donnie only had a speech delay his therapist didn't think it was worth her time. He finally started speaking at 28 months and has progressed quickly. I hope y'all have a lot of improvment with the new therapist! Good luck-Liz

Coyle Eagan. One Year Old. Doing well on Cow's Milk flavored with juice :) Drinking two bottles of Go&Grow daily. Eating solids better but still have rough days. No More Silent Reflux-that I can hear anyway.. but puking again. Zantac 2ML 2X daily.
I'm happy that he is doing such a wonderful job with her. Sad to hear that she has a speech delay but I know that with all your hard work she will definitely get better at it soon. I hope the therapy can continue to be more fun than work :)

I'm glad you found someone who is willing to work for you and with you. It really is hard too find someone. We terribly miss Ms. Janet and since we moved here we are looking for someone for my Elise. Ms. Janet was great and had Elises' s dysfluency down to 3 to 5 per 1/2 hour. In less then a year from about 12 per half hour. Elise is holding steady, we really have not noticed her digressing in any way, but I just want to stay on top of it.

Good Luck!

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site:
That is just GREAT!!! A good therapist makes a hige hige difference.

As a way of encouragment. When Jedd started ST he was at aobut a 8 month level. He was only saying mam dada, shoo shoo (shoes) and very little babbling. No animal sounds...he was really bad. Within the 6 months of getting ST he is now on target!!!!! We have completely stopped th ST because his delay is not big enough and we are oficaillydischarged from ST.

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
I know it isn't ideal to spend your alone time with her doing therapy, but at least it sounds enjoyable....not like real work for Aubrey, at least. Thankfully, this guy sounds like he is going to be really able to help you. Maybe it will end up taking way less time, too, because he seems really on the ball, you know?
Check with your
doctor first!
