Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
anyone's lo have damage after endo....
Has anyone out there had a kid that showed damage in stomach and esophogus after endoscope. I am kind of a mess when she tells me it hurts.

Are there any success stories out there where their lo got all healed up and eventually felt better....or am I just wishful thinking

As has been expressed by many before me.....I HATE reflux!

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
I'm so sorry. I feel so bad for you and Katie. We are in a similar boat. Sebastian's endoscopy and flex sigmoidoscopy in late June showed inflammation/damage from his esophagus right down into his small intestine. He had/has mucus in the duodenum and an elevated numbe rof white blood cells throughout his GI tract. BUT only four eosinophils, so hooray for that, at least!

Sebastian was put on Neocate only in July and was supposed to start foods (1 new one every three to four weeks) this past week, but because his reflux was out of control again (Prevacid upped to 45 mg per day), our magical allergist (I loathe the GI, also at this hospital) said NO to food. We are waiting until at least December, but probably 2009 at his request.

I get so, so upset when I think about all the months and months of pain Sebastian endured. I knew it was bad, but I didn't know it was THAT bad. We're not quite a success story in that Sebastian isn't healed up yet, BUT he is growing and happy and thriving. He is a little elephant - 32 inches and 27 pounds at his 12-monther, so to me, that is SUCCESS.

What is the doc's pan of action for Katie?

Thanks for understanding

Our follow-up with her is on Oct.17. The only change that she made after the endoscope showed damage was to increase her Prevacid from 15 mg solutabs twice a day to 1 and 1/2 solutab in morning and 1 in the evening. I have been giving her Mylanta like there is no tomorrow.

You said that Sebastion is on 45 mg per day , I wonder if my doc will consider increasing her dose.

I was thinking that my anxiety was under control but gosh it is so hard when she tells me that she is sick.

Brent's story would not be helpful or make you feel better, but we have different circumstances/issues...But there are plenty of kids who heal and feel better! I hope they can get her feeling better soon! I will say in your siggy it says 15 mg Prevacid 2 times a day, her dose could be higher. At 7 months old, Brent took 60 Mg of Prevacid a day, plus Zantac and other meds. If shes still on that dose, I would try going up, or trying another PPI, some kids do better on different ones.

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/jedd
I would think you could add in Carafate in orde rto coat her really well to allow the damage to heal underneath. I would ask for some. Time will heal the damage as long as the meds are helping KWIM They have to be high enough.

My oldest was very bad... she is totally healed and off reflux meds. My youngest refluxer is three and is still on prevacid but is doing pretty well. Just the occasional flare up. I agree with pp's that the damage can heal as long as you get the right meds and the right dosage. I know how hard this all is. Sending you ((HUGS))!!!

Kathryn, Pager Volunteer and mommy to Emily Mia 02/04/07. 3 years old with GERD. 30mg Prevacid and Pepcid AC. Mylanta needed for flares. Failed prilosec med switch. Tried and failed many med weans but GERD and pain are well controlled. Functional constipation. Reoccurring SBBO. Suspected IBD or autoimmune disease. Resolved issues: MSPI, CSID (acquired), Stage 2 kidney reflux, Chronic diarrhea.
Audrey Meadow 06/20/08. born 34/35 weeks. Still b/f and eats everything! ftt and chronic constipation.
emily had her scope about a year ago (holy moly i can't believe it's been a year!) it showed mild inflammation in her esophagus and in small intestine (but not in stomach, weird huh?) she was put on Nutramigen only for 2 months and switched to prevacid and carafate. We haven't had a recent scope but i can tell she is much better then she was this time last year. She still has reflux and still has trouble eating somethings, well a lot of things, but she is thriving, 27lbs and 35.5 inches tall, and has more good days then bad. i am sorry she is hurting but really i think she will get better the more you learn about her sickness and the things she can and can't handle.

My previous drivers license was also stolen. The new one has extra security features on it.
Carafate used to do wonders for Meggy.

During her first scope she had an NG tube inserted. I think all of her problems afterwards were caused by that. It would be hard to sort what was what.

She also had a flex sigmoidoscopy and came back with a rectal prolapse that was not there when she went in for surgery.

I always like to think there is hope, that there is light at the end of the tunnel. I just keep looking and hoping for answers.

I hope she feels much better very soon. Engi
