Tracey, mom to Katie. Diagnosed with reflux at 3 weeks and put on Zantac. At 8 months old she was removed from Zantac as it was giving her migraines, currently on Prevacid. Switched to Elecare since she is not gaining weight; trialing solids after being off for a month. Geneticist said reason she isn't gaining weight is she is stubborn. Upcoming appts.: Neurologist for developmental delay and EGD scheduled for September. She is one funny baby!
Just scared myself!
Lying in bed thinking about the things to not feed your child to avoid choking, death, and allergic reactions. This came about from the Craisins commercial and the new travel pack. I remembered looking at a baby food site for birthday cake recipes and that honey is a no-no which I already knew. Suddenly I remembered that cracker that I gave Katie on Monday that I wasn't going to give to her yet b/c it has honey in it but she wouldn't eat and I just wanted her to eat something and completely forgot. She had a very high number of cells in her blood indicating infection and I freaked out that I gave her honey. Called our HMO and while waiting for the nurse jumped online. Explained to the nurse about the last few days and eating and she is telling me how to help Katie feel better when I blurt our "Did I give my baby botulism?!" She laughed and said no; she is almost a year, it was a cracker and with having a virus that is how Katie developed a bacterial sinus infection. Felt like a complete moron!! At least she had a personality and was laughing with me and not all uptight about calling and tying up the line. Just had to share!

Grace 7/2/04 reflux free now!
Molly 7/10/07 the reason I'm here!
That's funny! Last Tuesday I must have had a dream that someone fed Molly something she can't have (I can't remember the dream). I woke up in the middle of the night in a complete panic. I freaked out on my husband, jumped up and grabbed the baby out of her crib and woke her up, too. Of course she was fine, but it took me almost an hour to get her to go back to sleep! It's so stressful worrying about them getting something they will have a reaction to.

Our 1 year old daughter has silent reflux, hypotonia as well as benign external hydrocephalus. We are currently weaning onto whole milk (we'll see if it works) and she is also on Prevacid 15mg per day.
Once I almost posted a question about if Keira could have Honey Graham crackers since "honey" is a no no before a year of age per the pedi. :P Don't feel like a moron. We've all been there done that. ;)

I think as long as it is not raw honey, the botulism isn't a problem. Raw meaning it has not been pasturized. I could be wrong though.

We all make mistakes. But I don't think the cracker would be a worry. I think they are baked and it would kill the germs.

I was once on a babycenter.com forum and there was huge controversy over this. The research I did myself said NO HONEY at all. Period. So she didn't get any graham crackers or anything with honey until she was 14 mos (adjusted age 12 mos).

Mom to Ian, 3/1/07
Used Zantac - 1.0 ml twice a day
Weaned at 1 year
Back on Zantac at 15 months
I've been reading labels too. It seems honey is in a lot of wheat breads. I wouldn't let my Ian have any until I spoke with the doc. (Of course he said if it is in something cooked, it's not a problem). I felt silly at the time, but we are all so careful to avoid any problems we can actually control, aren't we?
Check with your
doctor first!
