I have 3 boys, youngest has gerd, 18 months of no sleep. Prevacid 2x/7.5 mg thinking of switching to prilosec.
Prevacid to prilosec helps sleep?
Hello, This is my first forum entry, first forum ever. My 18 month old D.C. is taking prevacid 2x at 7.5mg soluable tabs. I'm planning on trying prilosec syrup to see if he gets better sleep. He wakes at least every two hours, sometimes every one hour. New RX is in the works. But of course it would not be a simple matter- must take it to "special pharmacy" to make. Ugh.

Mary & Nicholas 7-17-03 (non-refluxer)allergies, asthma on Singulair and Flovent & Aidan 1-28-07(my refluxer)Nissen Fundoplication on June 20, 2008, FTT, MSPI, DGE, ear tubes, allergies and severe GERD now currently taking just Prevacid and drinking Elecare Vanilla 1+.
Prevacid can be really hard on the stomach of it is too high of a dose or if it is truly not needed. SO it could definitely be disrupting his sleep. We just recently weaned off the night dose of Prevacid and my son is sleeping so much better.

Tracey, mom to Katie. Diagnosed with reflux at 3 weeks and put on Zantac. At 8 months old she was removed from Zantac as it was giving her migraines, currently on Prevacid. Switched to Elecare since she is not gaining weight; trialing solids after being off for a month. Geneticist said reason she isn't gaining weight is she is stubborn. Upcoming appts.: Neurologist for developmental delay and EGD scheduled for September. She is one funny baby!
Katie had too high of a dose at one point and couldn't sleep. How much does your son weigh? Some of the kids here take high doses and for them it helps but it made our dd in so much pain.

This is very ironic as I was about to start a new topic on nighttime sleeping and reflux. My son is on prevacid and has been since about 3 weeks old (now 7 months). He is the WORST sleeper I have ever heard of (until this topic). He wakes 1-2 hours ALL NIGHT LONG. It is crazy. I wonder if it is the prevacid? I had him off of it for two nights. The first night he slept 5 hours straight (a miracle), but the next night he was back to 1-2 hours BUT he is getting a 2nd tooth in and that could be it. He's 20 lbs and taking 7.5 mg solutab once per day. I did move his dose from evening to late afternoon and that doesn't seem to make a difference. Maybe morning would be better?

Mom to Matthew, 01/16/08, GERD baby, has been on Zantac since 2 mos. Aidan, his twin brother, no GERD. Max-ed out on Zantac at 1ml-3 times/day, and switched to Prevacid 15mg split tab 08/20/08. Switched again to 20mg Prilosec 09/18/08 due to Prevacid's restlessness/headache side effects. Reflux was out of control again and had to switch to 10mg Nexium 02/11/09. Good result so far.
One of the reason we switched Matthew to Prilosec capsule (20mg/day) because he was waking up every 1 - 2 hrs into the night and nap time. The first day we switched he slept and napped much better. He had 15mg Prevacid split AM/PM aday. The GI said even though it's not very common, it could be Prevacid side effects: headache, nausea, etc. I would check with the doctor to see what they recommend.

Incredible!
I am so happy to be communicating to other parents with same issues! Oh, what a relief! Thanks for your responses! To answer Katiesmommy my son weighs 22lbs.How did you know your baby had migraines? Wow! I suffer from migraines and often thought my son might have a headache but discounted my instincts thinking I was "projecting".Ugh! Sometimes I think we parents are over educated! He has been on prevacid for 14 months, same dose (7.5mg am& pm). He is also getting his bottom molars right now so I've been giving him motrin at night for the past week or so. helen lai- how do you administer the 20mg capsule? I hope I am doing this forum correctly.
