dentist- kinda ot (mommyto2?)
i took emily to the dentist today b/c the pedi was concerned about her thumb sucking and how it is pushing out her upper teeth. Plus with her GERD he also wanted to make sure the reflux hadn't effected her teeth.

the dentist we saw was wonderful he checked emily's teeth and said no damage from acid, yay! but in regards to her upper teeth thumb sucking was not the problem. The problem is that she has a recessed lower jaw, that she will more then likely need surgery for when she is older! this little girl gets more expensive by the minuet! LOL but he said it is still so early but he has not seen many cases like hers go w/o surgery. Jen- dosen't Aubrey have this same condition??

Adriane Reese 05/16/07; seemingly healthy when born; diagnosed with MSPI, severe Reflux, Apnea, Ashtma, Epilepsy, and severe food allergies(rice, corn, milk, soy, eggs, oats, wheat, beef, chicken, squash, pumpkin, avocado, etc.);On apnea monitor, seems to be tolerating RCF w/carbohydrate mixed in; on Zyrtec, Xopenex, Prevacid
Wow, what a thing to have after everything else. I am glad to hear that the reflux hasn't caused any damage. I swear that Morgan is making up for not having as many problems as A because she has had more dental work than I have in 30 years. I keep thinking that it will get better as she gets older but who knows.

Yes, she does. Hers was horrible when she was born. I am talking when you looked at her from below you could see the roof of her mouth when it was closed! We are in the same boat. They are thinking she made not need sx but we will be seeing an orthodontist when she gets older. They take pics of her profile (and have since we started going at 3mo old) and she has come a long way. One thing I was told was NOT to let her suck her hand. That keeps putting pressure on the jaw and keeps it pushed back when it "might" come forward. If that made sense. I worry about Aubrey's upper teeth being pushed out also. I plan to ask the dentist next time we go if it is bad or just b/c her jaw is back some.

We were also told it could just be that her chin is not going to be as prominate. My dh has the same profile Aubrey does. Is that maybe the case w/ Emily?

Tracey, mom to Katie. Diagnosed with reflux at 3 weeks and put on Zantac. At 8 months old she was removed from Zantac as it was giving her migraines, currently on Prevacid. Switched to Elecare since she is not gaining weight; trialing solids after being off for a month. Geneticist said reason she isn't gaining weight is she is stubborn. Upcoming appts.: Neurologist for developmental delay and EGD scheduled for September. She is one funny baby!
Hi! My dad and I both have an underdeveloped lower jaw. His was corrected with surgery mine was with every dental appliance known to man and years of braces to correct. I still don't have a strong jaw profile but I no longer can stick my finger in my mouth with it closed.

We could do that w/ Aubrey. Put our finger in her mouth even with it closed. She sucked her thumb/hand in every sono while in the whomb. that is what they are thinking caused the problem. as soon as she was pulled out of me her hand when straight there. they also think reflux was an issue in utero and that sucking was her comfort.

he said that emily's teeth looking pushed forward was a complete illusion that the top jaw was fine. Our pedi was surprised we weren't already seeing a dentist (this was her second well visit with him since we switched to him) he said that he thought she had been being seen or he would have sent us over a while ago.

every single ultrasound pic we have of emily shows her with her fist in her mouth. when she was born some friends of ours called her "daffy duck". She dosen't match our side face profiles but i too had YEARS (age 5-15) of every dental appliance and braces to correct my crooked teeth and over bite. Emily does have my full lips (think liv tyler) so that helps to make her face look symmetrical and evened out lol
