Coyle Eagan. One Year Old. Doing well on Cow's Milk flavored with juice :) Drinking two bottles of Go&Grow daily. Eating solids better but still have rough days. No More Silent Reflux-that I can hear anyway.. but puking again. Zantac 2ML 2X daily.
WHAT is going ON?
Ok, I just CAN'T take it anymore. For the past week my son will not sleep. Especially at night. for example, on Tuesday he was awake from 1030-130. Nothing got him back to sleep. I did not feed him. On Thursday it was 130-330. Tonite, we've been up since 330. By 5 i gave him 2 oz warm milk then tried to lay down with him. cried the whole time. By 530 i was like (pardon me) wtf! so we got up for the day with breakfast. didn't eat much then had a major poop.

during the day, naps are irregular. for a couple of days he took 2 good naps. then only one bad nap. then one good nap.

he's crabby & clingy. lays down on the floor sucking his fingers a lot. his reflux is bad but not terrible.

What is this? is it Normal? food related? reflux related? is this apnea? i don't know what to do...

Grace 7/2/04 reflux free now!
Molly 7/10/07 the reason I'm here!
Maybe it is the milk in his diet? With Molly, when we first tried yogurt she seemed fine. But as the milk built up in her system she got worse and worse. Since it didn't happen right away it took me a while to connect it. I just thought she was miserable because she was getting her molars and that the teething was what was making her reflux worse. But when we took all milk completely out of her diet she got MUCH better. Her molars still weren't through, but she was sleeping through the night, napping much better, and not so miserable while awake. Would Coy go back to drinking formula? Maybe you could try to take all milk out of his diet for a week or two and see if he improves. I'm sorry he isn't sleeping. I know how bad that sucks! I hope you both get a good nap today.

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
Allie's been doing this a little as well. I'm putting it down to all the changes in the short life - new foods, milk, asserting independence, frustration, and just plain crankiness. Is he teething at all? As for milk, we pulled it last week due to illness, but she's sleeping better, so I may hold off on it for a while longer and add an ounce a day slowly. Can you try maybe a toddler formula?

Elyse does this every month or so now, for several days in a row. She will go back to sleep after an hour usually though, if I lay with her on the floor...then I wake up awhile later and am able to put her back in bed. Sorry that coy takes so long to get back to sleep, if at all! ELyse WILL NOT sleep in our bed, i know I have told you that before.

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
It sounds to me like he might just be done with having you boss him around when it comes to sleep, just like Sebastian is over me. Well, too bad, kids.

I started to text you this morning, and then I saw the mouse again, so I sort of forgot in my hysteria. Today is the first day we purposefully are giving Sebastian only one nap. (Well, he has been taking one or less for months now...just they were apparently his decision). Yesterday, he took his a.m. nap and then flat-out refused the afternoon. I was starving and since I can pretty much just eat cardboard around this child, I left him up there and ate lunch. He was LAUGHING and crying alternately, so I was like, he's fine.

He went to sleep at 6:10 and only cried for a few minutes around 10ish (8-11 has laways been one of our rough patches). Then he woke to eat at 12:30 and WOULD NOT sleep. I felt bad, but after five tries, I left him in there. He cried for a looonnnnnggg time. Then he fell asleep and stayed that way until 6:40, which is super late for us, but he lost an hour or so in there somewhere.

I keep reading that 13-15 hours of sleep in a 25-hr period is normal for kids their age, so I am aiming low - 13. He is almost getting it if he stays in bed from 6 to 6 and if he naps 1.5 hours a day. Can you try dropping a nap for Coy? I know it is WAY early, but it might be less stressful for you. I couldn't take spending 3 hours a day getting this kid to sleep. Today I spent about 10 minutes.

HUUUUGGGEEE hugs for you.

One other thought - has he had an ear check? The symptoms you describe are similar to what my dd does when she has an ear infection.

Thanks, Donnessa - --Actually, Sebastian did this recently, too - and he ended up with a double ear infection. Now I am pretty sure it is gone, and he is still doing it (but it is different now. Now he jumps up and down and screams where as before, he rolled around and moaned)...

Thanks everyone. he is definitely getting his molars. his bottom backs are popping thru (they are taking FOR-EVER) and he's pulling on his ears. He is trying to walk.. 2 steps so far.. so could this be it too? last time he wouldnt sleep i had him checked for an ear infection and he did not have one. i called the NP and she suggested the same thing but until I see a fever... as far as the milk i just don't know! he's been having irregular bowels and cramping during the day. but, he had done this before on just straight alimentum (refusing to sleep that is). this is just so damn frustrating! i put him back down for a second nap...

melissa.. if he were ready for one nap you think he would be less cranky right? yesterday, he only took one morning nap and then was up from 1030-630 pm.. the day b4 he slept 2.5 in the morning 2 in the afternoon and then all night the day before! how can he be so different every other day?

Tracey, mom to Katie. Diagnosed with reflux at 3 weeks and put on Zantac. At 8 months old she was removed from Zantac as it was giving her migraines, currently on Prevacid. Switched to Elecare since she is not gaining weight; trialing solids after being off for a month. Geneticist said reason she isn't gaining weight is she is stubborn. Upcoming appts.: Neurologist for developmental delay and EGD scheduled for September. She is one funny baby!

Have you thought about milk problems?

Katie had 3 days of yogurt and 3 days of no sleeping. Take her off of yogurt back to sleeping. 4 days of Ritz crackers (daddy is allergic to corn and soy which they have) and 4 days of no sleeping. I don't think it's a coincidence in her case. She didn't test allergic to any of the above 3 but I her allergist said just because she didn't test for them doesn't mean they agree with her.

I just read your final post. Katie was developmentally 3 months behind on Alimentum and has more than caught up on Elecare. Could it be that he can't tolerate milk?? I know that you thought that in the past. Could he just have a little sensitivity?

Check with your
doctor first!
