Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
Sebastian big day!
Hi everyone! Thanks for the Happy Birthdays!

I cannot believe Sebastian is one already. On one hand, it seems like this was the longest year of my life, but then I also feel like it has flownnnnnn by. I can't believe my little man is so, well, BIG. I was all weepy all day Saturday -you know, "Oh, this is the last nap you will take before you are a year old," etc.

Sebastian had a fire truck party yesterday....lots of streamers, signs, cut-outs, etc. There were 15 kids (nine under age 18 months), so it was a pretty wild day. My husband and I made all the food, so we knew it was Sebastian safe - and NO HIVES!!! HOORAY! This is a total FIRST for any sort of gathering. What was also great was that my six-yar-old niece, Bryn (who also has food allergies), could eat anything on the table for the first time EVER except at her own house. She ate things she will not TOUCH at home, like refried beans and guacomole, because she was so excited.

I had been terrified because Sebastian was up the night before from 9:20 -1:15 and then got up for the day way before 6. He napped only from 9-9:30 and was a cranky terror. I finally had my MIL take him for a walk so my husband and I could finish getting ready. And he was GREAT!

I mean, he had his super cranky moments, but he did ok! (ALthough he did insist on peeing all over me, my floor, himself, and his brand-new Washington Wizards jersey when I went to change him...and then he insisted on jumping up and down in the pee and running away down the hall with my package of wipes, flinging them gleefully as he went. )

I made him a BIG bowl of popcorn for him to throw around (and boy, did he) instead of a cake (sadly, he doesn't put anything food related in his mouth, so I knew it was safe).

He got super cranky around 4:30, and mostly everyone was gone by 5, thank God.

I am soooooo sad he is one. So sad.

Our 1 year old daughter has silent reflux, hypotonia as well as benign external hydrocephalus. We are currently weaning onto whole milk (we'll see if it works) and she is also on Prevacid 15mg per day.
Congrats to you AND Sebastian on one year!!!! :) Yes Keira turned a year on the 20th and I'm still sorta emotional. The peeing story was hysterical! Keira has certainly had fun taking all the wips out as well as diapers and flinging them everywhere.

Lorenzo b.4/25/07 1 week in NICU w/ aspirate pneumonia from a reflux episode; diagnosed GERD at 9weeks; Used Zantac for 5months. Currently using Chinese Medicine and Craniosacral Therapy. GERD, Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Sensory Processing Disorder. Ask me about breastfeeding a refluxer! Pic: day 5 in the NICU.
Happy Birthday Sebastian, and mama too! I know just what you mean about the longest and shortest year...this parenting thing is wild...

What a great gift hidden in the challenge of Sebastian's allergies that you become a "safe house" for those with allergies and food intolerance. It is such a drag to go to someone's house and always have to be ultra cautious about what is being offered because you know your little one will suffer if they get hold of it...

Happy Birthday, again, to both of you!

Sounds like Sebastian had a very happy Birthday. Congrats. It was hard work getting to 1 year old and very rewarding all at the same time. It is amazing just how fast that first year passes by.

Picture: This is what happens when you raise a kid on health food and they get ahold of a Coke! Bad mom, that soda is NOT on the reflux diet.
UPDATE: Isaiah is now 12 and off meds! He is doing great, eating again and hopefully will be catching up in the growing department. I am still in the "hoping it sticks" phase, but we're so happy that he's better!
Aw, happy birthday to the little man! I totally understand the birthday blues, I feel that way pretty much every birthday for each of my kids. Sigh. But one was the hardest, so far. Probably I'll need Prozac when Isaiah turns 13...Sounds like a riotous and happy party, which is exactly what they should be. 15 kids....wow, you're brave! I hope you took lots and lots of pictures. Give him a big hug for me, before you go clean up that popcorn (or did Louise already take care of that?).

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Wish I could have seen him throwing popcorn! That's great about no hives! Hopefully relatives will see that it can be done!

Mom to Matthew, 01/16/08, GERD baby, has been on Zantac since 2 mos. Aidan, his twin brother, no GERD. Max-ed out on Zantac at 1ml-3 times/day, and switched to Prevacid 15mg split tab 08/20/08. Switched again to 20mg Prilosec 09/18/08 due to Prevacid's restlessness/headache side effects. Reflux was out of control again and had to switch to 10mg Nexium 02/11/09. Good result so far.
Happy Belated B-day Sebastian! Sound like a fun and sweet day he had. I can't wait to see the new pics soon. Big kudos to Mom and Dad for throwing such a great party.
Check with your
doctor first!
