Sharon~ Head size
I'm off a little but it is two inches at the top and it slims down to about one inch on the forehead. This isn't my kid but do you think I should suggest they take him in? He is 9 months old so maybe that is why it is so big yet. She was bringing him in for measuring but hasn't had to for awhile...Oh wait I'm sure it will be measured at his 9 month check. Is it possible to puncture it? or for him to tip over while sitting up or moving around and break it open? I've never had a child with this big of a soft spot before. I maybe worrying for nothing though. I should google it and see if this is alright at this age. Thanks for all the info.

Our 1 year old daughter has silent reflux, hypotonia as well as benign external hydrocephalus. We are currently weaning onto whole milk (we'll see if it works) and she is also on Prevacid 15mg per day.
Don't mean to hijack your thread but I saw head size on the topic and since we have to deal w/ head measurements all the time..... Keira has a larger than normal fontanel (soft spot). Once her head starts reshaping when the ventricles stop swelling then it's suppose to resolve. Do you know if the pedi they take this kid to wants to do frequent measurements?

I didn't check out anything regarding 9 mo olds but that sounds BIG to me! I did read that preemies usually have bigger ones (and E was preemie).

He was a premie too. They haven't had to bring him in since end of June. So I was just trying to figure out if this was alright. He will have to go in soon for his 9 month check maybe then they will look at it. This is a first time mom and I don't want to scare her but if it is something that needs to be looked into I don't want to just let it be either. I've never seen one this big before!

I bet the dr will check it at the upcoming appt. if I were you, I would just make a comment to the mom about how you haven't seen one that big before and would she ask the pedi if there are any extra precautions that you as a provider need to take to keep him safe??? I have no idea if they can puncture it.
Check with your
doctor first!
