Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
Katie update
Katie's biopsies came back normal for allergy cells, lactose. sucrose and H.Pylori. There is quite a bit of damage in her stomach and esophagus. They tell me that will heal with the medicine.

I am curious why she has been doing so well on the low-lactose diet. I wonder if it is because she has so much damage the extra acid in the lactose makes it hurt. Or if she may have a milk allergy.

With a milk allergy wouldn't I see more of break-outs and hives than belly pain.

From what I understand about food allergies is that it is more of a stomach pain and diahrea that you get. I could be wrong though.

Tracey, mom to Katie. Diagnosed with reflux at 3 weeks and put on Zantac. At 8 months old she was removed from Zantac as it was giving her migraines, currently on Prevacid. Switched to Elecare since she is not gaining weight; trialing solids after being off for a month. Geneticist said reason she isn't gaining weight is she is stubborn. Upcoming appts.: Neurologist for developmental delay and EGD scheduled for September. She is one funny baby!
I really think it depends. I am allergic to milk with a true allergy that I get a weakened immune system and as a toddler developed bronchitus and pnemonia (spelling) and to this day if I have more than a little milk i will get any cold that is going around. Husband has a corn and soy intollerance where he gets raging headaches that can't be solved by any pain medicine; he just has to let it run its course. We should have never had children! :)

My previous drivers license was also stolen. The new one has extra security features on it.
Other than for a few weeks Meggy has dealt with severe constipation, stomach spasms, and hours of crying in pain.
Her skin prick test show positive for milk allergy, and soy allergy. She never broke out in hives, but she never tolerated infant formula either.

lactose is a sugar it is hard to digest and from what i was told if there is inflammation in the stomach it might extend into the lower part of the small intestine where the enzymes are. Although she may not be deficient in producing those enzymes her body my have a hard time getting the enzymes out there to attach to the lactose to break down. a low sugar diet and low dairy diet is always good when you have many GI problems.
