I have been reading your recent posts about EC (Eosiniphilic Colitis). I was wondering what her main symptoms were and how they diagnosed it. I pushed to have a colonoscopy (sp?) done when they did the upper GI scope and they didn't do it. Her upper GI showed that her esophagus was fine and there was no damage from her AR, thank goodness. Yet it did show severe adema and swelling her small intestines. He just said that it was aggravated from the food. I am just wondering if some of her issues is caused from EC and if she needs the lower scope and biopsy. Thanks Amanda

My previous drivers license was also stolen. The new one has extra security features on it.
I am guessing they did biopsy to check for allergy cells during the endoscopy. That is how we discovered eosinophills (allergy cells) in Meggy's intestines and stomach.

They did biopsy's but not in the intestines. Or at least not in the large intestine. She had so much adema that they could barely get anything in there. Even the scope. I talked to the GI nurse and she is relaying everything to the doc. I called in her approximate weight this morning. So, we will see what they say. I kind of hope they over ride the soy challenge and do a different one.

GI symptoms such as bloody mucusy diarrhea, stomach pain Anemia, low blood protein, growth failure, peripheral blood eos are all EGID(and EC) symptoms. To dx Eos colitis, the biopsied Eosinophil count should be greater than 10-20 eosinophils per hpf, 0 in infants. Tretment is pretty much the same, though elemental or elimination diet seems to fail more and raise the need for steriods and other medications. I read that unlike EE, Eos Colitis and Eos Gastroenteritis have a chance of being outgrown. EC is highly suspected in my son(he already has been diagnosed with EE) his symptoms are bloody and mucusy bowel movements, chronic diarrhea, stomach pain, failure rto thrive.. HTH __________________

Oh yeah, and it can be an allergy related without being an eosinophilic disorder. I would look into it though
