Everyone Update Here Please
Time for a weekly update. How are the sick los feeling today? How is everyone else?

Things are going good here except for teething. But I'm sure it will get better soon. Next week is the big med wean. I'm really optimistic that this time it will work. He hasn't had a wet burp or acid breath in months.

I've fallen behind on the posts so everyone please fill me in:)

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
Hi! OK. Here is where we are. Sebastian has a slight fever and still has his double ear infection. He is sleeping like crraaaaaappppppppp and waking up hourly again. His reflux seems to be a bit better, though, so maybe th emed increase is helping! Just trying to get through the days on zerrrooooo sleep (I am paranoid he is going to react to Augmentin). Ho wis everyone else doing?

Melina 7/24/02 now reflux free!!
TWINS:
Ella 5/3/05 GERD, asthma, hypotonia, food intolerances, esophagitis, IBS //
Ava 5/3/05 asthma, food allergies
Pic: My girls! They are getting so big!
We are all well, KNOCK ON WOOD! Melina has not missed one day of school so far this year (Lord help me for typing that one). ;)

Ella did her evaluation for pt/ot and does not qualify because her motor delay is not affecting her ability to learn. So while she needs more pt/ot for her gross motor the school district will not cover it. Thankfully I got a bunch of ideas and am hoping to be able to work on it with her at home.

My two with asthma have been doing really well since they started Flovent. All of the "colds" I thought they were getting must have been asthma coughs because they have not had a "cold" since! (Again, I may be sorry I said that).

My dh got a new job (with the same co) but will have worse hours. More time away from the kids during their "awake hours" means more work for me. How annoying! LOL.

That's about it here. How are all of you???

Adriane Reese 05/16/07; seemingly healthy when born; diagnosed with MSPI, severe Reflux, Apnea, Ashtma, Epilepsy, and severe food allergies(rice, corn, milk, soy, eggs, oats, wheat, beef, chicken, squash, pumpkin, avocado, etc.);On apnea monitor, seems to be tolerating RCF w/carbohydrate mixed in; on Zyrtec, Xopenex, Prevacid
We are doing okay. A started having some nasty diapers and broke out after getting into the tomatoes that were thrown in the trash in a plastic bag. Yuck! I guess it was at least in a plastic bag. So, I think we know that she can't have tomatoes. I felt awful about her getting those out. I think she was just so hungry. She is off all food right now and back to her liquid diet of formula. She has been sleeping better though. We go on Friday for the Soy challenge at the allergist's office. Which should be fun since we will have to be there all day.

Morgan has been having alot of asthma troubles. She has been taking her neb treatments everyday sometimes more. So, we have started back on singulair and perhaps flovent. We will see how this goes.

We have all had some sort of crud. I think it is mainly allergies but it has hit hard. A finally woke up with a clear nose this morning but then once we spent anytime outside it was dripping green stuff! It was like it was attacking. Yuck! I hope everyone is feeling a little better this week. -Amanda

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
We all survived the attack of the IL's for Allie's first birthday party. She's doing well - her one year check yesterday showed her at 27.5" in height and 19.1 lbs. She's walking and climbing on everything, and we've started the milk trial. Other than that, not too much here. Had the no-sleep monster visit us for a few days, but I chalk that one up to an annoying grandma who won't listen to us about bedtime rituals and CIO. Hope everyone else is doing well!

Donnessa, mom to Halley born 3/10/07
Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
Halley is sick AGAIN. She ran a temp of 101.6 during the night with no other symptoms - weird. Not sure if it's related to teething (her bottom molars are ready to pop through any second), a virus (darn daycare!) or God forbid - her ears. The fever responded pretty well to Motrin this morning, so we'll see how it goes today.

We've started potty training. I wish I had taken a picture of her horrified face when I put her on the potty for the first time yesterday. It was hilarious. She's warming up a little bit to it now - I'm sure Elmo's voice telling her good job (in Spanish??) is helping.

My ils were here last week escaping the lack of electricity in Houston. The power came back on Sunday, so all is well down there now.

Hope everyone else is doing ok - thinking of you all.

Mom (Danie) to Adam (9-4-03) & Nate (3-7-07) Nate was diagnosed with silent AR at 2 months old. He was on neocate, prevacid 30mg per day and couldn't start solids till he was almost 8 months old. He started cow's milk at 14 months and is currently off all meds!! So far so good :) PIC: Disney trip 2008. Nate didn't know Piglet was there, he didn't like the characters too much.
Hey all. Nate slept pretty crappy last night again. I ended up holding him in my comfy chair just so I could get some rest. He wakes up fine and has no fever, thank goodness. I can't believe I will admit this here, but I took him to school. I informed them and asked their opinion and they had no problems. He actually didn't cry today, I was shocked.

I am getting Adam ready for his school pictures today. I don't want to dress him too "goody goody" or too "cool"...this is a harder age than I thought, lol.

I love reading all the updates here. I had to use my inhaler last night, I woke up with a little wheezing. After sleeping upright in the chair with Nate, I felt much better. Take care all and have a great day :)

I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
we are doing "okay" I guess. Joslyn had a horrific night Sunday. She wanted mommy to put her to sleep...... and when I put her in her bassinett she woke up screaming. this lasted for 2 hours! finally at midnight she went to sleep and so did I. DH tried to help but she only screamed when he picked her up. She is in a mommy only mode and has been for about a month! The prevacid is working..... but we are not sure if it is causing her to have restless sleep at night. We go to her GI tomorrow. She has had 3 watery poops since yesterday too. (Maybe teething?) Only wants to sleep on me..... house looks a mess... dishes are needing to be done...... Pooky is wonderfully happy with me. Right now she is awake in her swing waiting for me to pick her up and put her back to sleep!!!!! You know the CIO method? IT DOES NOT WORK WITH HER!!!! She will not stop crying! She will cry for an hour! If I pick her up she stops instantly! What other methods can we try? She will not fall asleep on her own anymore! She used to........... not anymore. But really how long can you get upset with a face like this????

Aidan is still sick and running a fever so I took him to the ped this morning. He has an ear infection and some kind of viral thing called petiki? in his mouth. It looks like a rash of cuts in his mouth. He didn't sleep at all last night so I feel like a mack truck hit me today. He seems to have boudless energy despite being sick. UGH!!!!! I am so over this. I will post an another post some Q's.

PICTURE: Aubrey in her cute cat outfit. If you look you can see how her right foot turns in. She walks that way as well. It is not as exaggerated in the morning's but gets worse in the evenings. This was after her nap.

Aubrey is doing better. Still not back to eating meats, but is eating good other than that.

Brandon still has his sinus infec so the pedi switched his ab today. Hopefully that will kick it.

I have a splitting headache that even the excedrin migraine hasn't gotten rid of-that is never a good sign. I am hoping I don't get a migraine. Tonight at the boy's soccer practice the boys are scrimmaging (sp) the mom's. I need to be in tip top shape for this or the coaches (my dh being one of them) will give us a hard time!

Picture: This is what happens when you raise a kid on health food and they get ahold of a Coke! Bad mom, that soda is NOT on the reflux diet.
UPDATE: Isaiah is now 12 and off meds! He is doing great, eating again and hopefully will be catching up in the growing department. I am still in the "hoping it sticks" phase, but we're so happy that he's better!
Doing ok here...Isaiah is still refluxing more than usual, I think it *may* be due to a slight virus that he's had so my hope is that he'll be better soon. Otherwise, I may need to discuss up-ing the meds with his dr., I just want him to be comfortable enough to eat, kwim? Finally he had grown a little, and now we're back to refluxing and not wanting to eat. Sigh. No more wheezing so far for Rachel, I'm hoping that she just was allergic to something in the bouncy castle and won't have another episode again for awhile. On an OT note, my inlaws have just been bumped up from being irritating to being insane...I am struggling with that and dh and I are having to figure out how to deal with it. Why are some people so mean? Sigh. Almost done canning all the peaches...if you want to see pics check out my blog (www.anerissara.blogspot.com).

ethan's mom
Meridith, mom to Ethan born 4/23/08. Ethan was diagnosed with reflux at about 1 month. He has been on Zantac (unsuccessful) and Prevacid. He is currently taking 7.5 mg of Prevacid 2x per day, with good results. We also suspect MPI, though this hasn't been confirmed by a doctor yet.
Ethan is mostly breastfed, though we are doing one bottle of soy formula each day. We also do some homeade "solids' including, so far pears, avocado, sweet potato, and peaches.
Photobucket
Ethan is five BIG months old today! :) In honor of his birthday we tried some sweet potatoes again, and they didn't come back, so he must be okay. He hasn't really napped since then, but I'm hoping that is just a coincidence.

We are doing okay, fighting through a reflux flare, waiting for a GI appt, but he is having fun and playing quite a bit. Grandpa comes to visit him next week, so mommy gets a little break!

I hope all of the sick little ones are feeling better soon.

We have decided to put Nathan in daycare 2-3 days a week. DH just can't handle both boys everyday. (Not that he tried very long as last week was first week back to work for me). I am still nervous about him bringing home a cold to Nicholas but don't have much choice as dh is a miserable son of gun otherwise. I think it will be really good for Nathan too. We checked out one today and he didn't notice when we left him outside with other kids and pitched a serious fit when we took him to go. I think he'll really enjoy it and it will probably help his speech. Problem is, the one we went to today, which we liked, has waiting list with no idea when opening will arise. Others are not places I'd feel comfortable leaving him. We are set to check out another place Thurs, and I am hopeful we like it as they have immediate openings for his age group. Nicholas has been on the Neocate since Friday and I have to say, I think it is helping. His disposition is better and I think his eczema (which is all over) seems to be getting better. We ran out of the simply thick which helps his feeding and reflux so much (becasue dh didn't order for two days after I told him to because he "had a question". The man calls me for everything else!!!!-so we had none for the past four days!!!ughh). Anyway, I think (hope) the neocate and simply thick combo may really be great for him. Will have to thank you all big time if it is because I would never know anything about either if not for everyone here!!!

Coyle Eagan. One Year Old. Doing well on Cow's Milk flavored with juice :) Drinking two bottles of Go&Grow daily. Eating solids better but still have rough days. No More Silent Reflux-that I can hear anyway.. but puking again. Zantac 2ML 2X daily.
Hi everyone. Glad to read the updates in one place. Coyle is not sleeping well either. He woke up refusing his sippy cup & breakfast. I couldn't get him to eat or drink well until late afternoon. And, he did have a silent reflux flare which has been a rarity-I don't think i've seen/heard one in over 2 weeks! bummer :( those teeth are right at the surface so i'm hoping that is the culprit and not a new food...

Lorenzo b.4/25/07 1 week in NICU w/ aspirate pneumonia from a reflux episode; diagnosed GERD at 9weeks; Used Zantac for 5months. Currently using Chinese Medicine and Craniosacral Therapy. GERD, Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Sensory Processing Disorder. Ask me about breastfeeding a refluxer! Pic: day 5 in the NICU.
Lorenzo is....EATING SOLID FOOD!!!!! He has never eaten more than about a tablespoon of solids per day, but over the past week he has started eating almost everything I offer him. He is loving rice and carrots and peas especially, and he has had 4, count them 4, normal poops this week (that's 4 normal poops out of the thousands of slimy, green, liquid explosions over the past year and a half)!

So that's the good news. The bad news is that he is refluxing a lot again. He even had a couple of put the nose episodes, which we haven't seen for months. He is having lots of apnea episodes, and his sleep is about he same as it ever was -- waking every 30-40 minutes so far tonight. It was kind of pathetic, last night I found myself thinking, "wow, he has been asleep for so long" and it really felt like it had been hours, but when he did wake up, it turned out it had only been an hour and fifteen minutes...

In spite of that, I am so happy about his eating. He was just beginning to lose ground on the weight to height ratio and looking a little "ribby." We have appointments with the occupational therapist and the cardiologist on Thursday, and after waiting a month for authorization on a referral, we are finally getting in to see a GI at the end of October.

We may have a few good answers for Meggy. We are trying to work out the last few kinks in her diet that still include dairy, soy, or corn. We will be ordering Ultracare online to try. Meggy is tired from all the driving but super happy to be home. Yesterday she was crying at the sight of food, but today she seems like she will eat the whole house.
