Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
What is normal for an ear infection??
You see, I just don't know because we have never had one that wasn't coupled with a sinus infection AND an allergic reaction, so this is new to me. I hardly slept at all last night because I was so worried Bassy was going to react to the Augmentin like he does everything. He has super dry skin on his upper arms, but he has no sign of hives or anything right now. Hooray!!

Sebastian is sleeping like total butt. He is waking at the end of every sleep cycle. I am of course going to him because he is sick, but he is waking up every day more and more cumulatively overtired. I know he doesn't feel well, but I also don't know when to go back to ignoring him for a little while so he will go back to sleep. If I don't do this, he will get back into this habit and be grouchy monster (like me). Once he is starting to feel better - do I wait until he is finished his antibiotic and has his 2-week check-up?

When do they start to feel better when they have ear infections? Do your kids sleep this horribly whent hey are sick and if so, is there anything we can do? He HATES my bed.

THanks so much.

Mom (Danie) to Adam (9-4-03) & Nate (3-7-07) Nate was diagnosed with silent AR at 2 months old. He was on neocate, prevacid 30mg per day and couldn't start solids till he was almost 8 months old. He started cow's milk at 14 months and is currently off all meds!! So far so good :) PIC: Disney trip 2008. Nate didn't know Piglet was there, he didn't like the characters too much.
Sorry I can't offer any advice on this...I am going thru the SAME thing. I battle with the "should I go to him, or is it starting up the bad habit again???" Nate was doing good for about 4 days. When we had his well check, to my surprise his OTHER ear got infected and the right ear never cleared up. It's moments like that when I feel so guilty for complaining about him waking at night. I hope Bassy feels better soon...you should see the circles under my eyes, I don't even care anymore ;)

When my kids have an ear infection they sleep more. I also gave them tylenol and motrin every 4 hours. The antis almost always give them diarhea. The anits seem to kick in pretty fast. Sorry I'm not much help. I hope he feels better soon.

Donnessa, mom to Halley born 3/10/07
Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
Oh am I sadly familiar with this. Halley slept like CRAP when she had ear infections (which were usually coupled with sinus infections). He should start doing better after 3 or 4 days of antibx. Hang in there!

I do the tylenol/motrin thing for the first couple days to help w/ the pain. Most do sleep worse w/ ear inf. I guess wether or not to go in there is your call. When mine just wimper I don't go in. If it is an all out cry or scream lasting more than a couple minutes I go in, but you have to make that call based on S and his habits...HTH!

maggiemom
Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Have you asked about ear drops? They make pain drops for ears and they made a huge difference in how Maggie felt with ear infections. My drops were a/b drops (their for pain, not antibiotics). They're not the ones that burned her....

I always went to Mags when she was sick, then we paid for it for a little while after she felt better.

Hopefully he'll feel better soon.
