Our 1 year old daughter has silent reflux, hypotonia as well as benign external hydrocephalus. We are currently weaning onto whole milk (we'll see if it works) and she is also on Prevacid 15mg per day.
OT/ Vax Issues
So today we take Keira to her 1 year apt. Turns out she doesn't get the MMR till 15 months of age. When I happened to mention wanting to spread that out the doctor said that their office considers it cruelity to children!?!? Ok I'm not happy about her getting shots spread out but I also don't want to worry about autism or mercury issues. I think that's a lot to have given at once JMO. Sheesh thanks for making me feel like a child abuser. :( So she got her Prevnar and Hep A shots today. And he says we can try whole milk now. That will be a big test w/ reflux! ;)

ethan's mom
Meridith, mom to Ethan born 4/23/08. Ethan was diagnosed with reflux at about 1 month. He has been on Zantac (unsuccessful) and Prevacid. He is currently taking 7.5 mg of Prevacid 2x per day, with good results. We also suspect MPI, though this hasn't been confirmed by a doctor yet.
Ethan is mostly breastfed, though we are doing one bottle of soy formula each day. We also do some homeade "solids' including, so far pears, avocado, sweet potato, and peaches.

Wow, we get snide comments from the doctors for wanting to spread out vaccinations, but never one that outright accused us of being abusive!

I'd encourage you to hang in there, and stand your ground, if that is where your heart is. There are most certainly some unanswered questions about vaccines out there, and some of the most respected pediatricians are willing to work with parents (Dr. Sears), and encourage other practioners to offer alternative schedules.

Hopefully the milk trial will go well, keep us posted.

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
cruelty? ok....I think we all have different opinions on the whole vax thing, but I don't think any of it is cruel. that's a bit dramatic isn't it. We're all just moms doing what we think is best. Don't let it get to you...too much any way :)

Yeah it's just that he said "cruelty to children". That REALLY upset me. I've done everything in my complete power through this whole freakin year to make Keira as pain free and as comfy as possible through reflux, external hydrocephalus and whatever else was thrown her way and to say that just ticked me the heck off! :P GRRRRR. I love Dr. Sears- I mean I don't love how he makes you feel that if you don't b/f you're not helping your kid but besides that I respect him. I think his attachment parenting is great advice for parents and he has a lot of info about reflux.

That is ridiculous! It is your decision. they don't make you sign for vaccines for no reason!!! Dr Sears vaccination book offers a good alt schedule.

Coyle Eagan. One Year Old. Doing well on Cow's Milk flavored with juice :) Drinking two bottles of Go&Grow daily. Eating solids better but still have rough days. No More Silent Reflux-that I can hear anyway.. but puking again. Zantac 2ML 2X daily.
in our state the MMR is given @ one year of age. Coy got 4 shots @ his one year appointment :( he was over it in like 5 mintues though. Do you give tylenol before the appointment? best advice i ever got. anyway, as long as you follow the schedule and give the shots within the timeline (12-15 mo & 4-6 yrs ) then you are all set. if you give it @ different times then it is really ineffective at preventing these diseases. DTAP is given @ 15 mo. so you might want to schedule the MMR @ say 13.5 mo. if you want to spread them out...
