Things that make you go...hmmmm (Daycare)
Hey all, We just got back from Rory's first transition day at daycare. She didn't cry when I snuck out and they said the only other time she cried was when another boy cried. We arrived at 8am. They informed me that they have an "open" snack time between 7:30 and 9:30, as the kids arrive, they give them snacks. Today, apparently, it was bread and raisins. I asked them to please not give her raisins as she may choke. So she had 1/2 slice ww bread. They gave her an open cup of water, with like an inch of water in it. I told them she can't use an open cup yet, but she can try. Of course, she dumped it all over herself, at was attempting the bread while I left. When I came back at 10:30, I asked if she had had anything to eat or drink and she said, "yeah, bread and a cup of water"......um, she spilled the water, but whatever. No big deal, it was only 2 1/2 hours I was gone. Here's the thing that concerned me. She said that noticed some blood on her lip *while she was changing her diaper*. I said, no big deal, she probably just pulled the scab off her HEALED blisters. End of story. Until I got home. I noticed Rory's diaper shirt was wet, so I went to change her diaper. She had on the same diaper from this morning. I sent in different diapers than what I have at home. So she was in the same diaper from 7:00am until 12pm!!! She couldn't possibly have been dry when she supposedly changed her diaper at 10am. I'm like, hmmmmmm. Anyway, tomorrow is another day. We'll see what snack consists of tomorrow. I wasn't too impressed with raisins, bread and water. Prisoners get fed better than that, lol. Anyway, I survived leaving her. She said I don't have to bring her tomorrow until 9:30, but I'll be taking her at 8:30 to see what's for snack ;)

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/jedd
HHMMMM Is right. I know some one who had the diaper issue as well. they put an X on the back of the diaper and checked whenever the hcild was picked up. That way they coudl PROVE the diaper had NOT been changed. KWIM

I am not sure how it is up there...LOL But her in Va they are required to give the kiddos X amount of whole milk at snack time and juice in the after noons. There are strict guidelines on what the children can eat and how often they must eat. I would check it out.

I hope tomorrow goes better.

Coyle Eagan. One Year Old. Doing well on Cow's Milk flavored with juice :) Drinking two bottles of Go&Grow daily. Eating solids better but still have rough days. No More Silent Reflux-that I can hear anyway.. but puking again. Zantac 2ML 2X daily.
sheesh. that doesnt sound like a terrific first day! i agree about the snack.. bread and raisins sounds interesting esp. considering kids under 4 aren't supposed to get raisins... hope tomorrow is a better day! congrats on leaving her!

Mom (Danie) to Adam (9-4-03) & Nate (3-7-07) Nate was diagnosed with silent AR at 2 months old. He was on neocate, prevacid 30mg per day and couldn't start solids till he was almost 8 months old. He started cow's milk at 14 months and is currently off all meds!! So far so good :) PIC: Disney trip 2008. Nate didn't know Piglet was there, he didn't like the characters too much.
Hmmmm is so right. I understand your concerns completely...but tomorrow is a different day. I will say, I have JUST started giving Nate raisins and he does really well with them. The thing is, I sit there and WATCH him since they are such a choking hazard, kwim (of course you do, lol)

Maybe (just maybe) when she went to change her diaper, she was dry (that could be a possibility). I know at Nate's school, they do diaper changes every 2 hours (approx) so maybe she wet her diaper *after* the girl checked it?? I am just trying to give them the benefit of the doubt.

The regular cup thing is just funny to me. Why bother with a room full of kids at that age, she can't possibly be the only one who spills it. What Jessica said is true here in Indiana also. One snack he gets juice, the other he gets milk. Nate will not drink juice (they told me this) so they offered him water but eventually gave him extra milk (his favorite). Nate has this big long table with little "cut out" holes in it (like 6 high chair type seats) I LOVE it because they are confined when eating/drinking all their meals...is it like that at Rory's school?

Your concerns are very valid in my opinion. I would simply ask what the diaper changing "policy" is. Surely, if they smell a dirty diaper and the child was JUST changed, they will change it again. I am glad she did not cry much. I will say, Nate didn't cry at all his first day...it was when we went back the next day (he so remembered that mom left the day before, lol)

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
I was thinking the prison thing too. same diaper? that's totally not cool! Honestly, I'd give it one more morning and if that happens again DEFINITELY tell the director. Today may have been some kind of mishap, but two days is not okay. Now I will say that sometimes at daycare (Maggie is in my class right now) Maggie is dry till after lunch. I've seen it. It's bc she doesn't drink as much there as at home. So that might be the case, but if she was dry when they checked, they should have checked again later. No child should be left with the same diaper that long!!!

That snack doesn't make sense at all. I don't know the guidelines but that doesn't sound right. Like Jess said, there are guidelines.

Hopefully it was just a "Monday" and tomorrow will be different. :)

Oh about the cup....in Maggie's class at both places we've been, they use open cups. Even for lunch at the daycare. It's something they have to master. They give sippy cups until 18mths. Now with her just starting, maybe you can work something out with them when at least for lunch.

I've seen it to at this age that they are starting to learn to hold their bladder because the muscle is starting to develop. I check diapers every 2 hours except naptime of course. If a child is dry I usually wait a little while and try again or if they are close to 2 I sit them on the potty. You had said on facebook that she was starting to use the potty. Is this an option at daycare if indeed she was dry? The food they served is the morning snack if it was breakfast I'm sure they are required to give her something better. As for the raisins I don't give them at that age. Tomorrow is another day. Good luck. Try to give the daycare the beneifit of the doubt with the diaper esp since she was only there 2 hours. But if it keeps happening I'd speak up.

Thanks girls. I will definitely give them the benefit of the doubt. She was in a new place so she could very well have held it in. I just know at home she wets very soon after her bottle. That reminds me Amber, I forgot to talk to her teacher about the potty training. I talked to the co-ordinator but not her. I'm hopeful it will all work out. It's probably just first-day mom jitters. :)

Well, Michelle, it's not JUST jitters. Your concerns are valid and I would feel the same way. Just see how tomorrow goes and if it's not better, talk to the boss.

Hugs, hope tomorrow is better!

Michelle~ I hope I didn't make it sound like you have no reason at all to be concerned. I wouldn't just shrug it all off but I was trying to give you a daycare perspective. I would keep an eye out for these things and if it keeps happening I'd then talk to someone. I'm curious about when she had the bottle. If she had it there they should have checked her diaper a little while after it. I thought you said she was there at 8:30 but it was 8 so she was there 2.5 hours. If you don't want to make a big deal out of the diaper thing but want her changed more often you could say I'll be back at this time and could you please have a fresh diaper on her because we have to take the bus home and it sometimes runs late. That way you know she will have a fresh diaper on before pick up time. I've had mom's that have done that if they weren't going to go straight home.

Oh, Amber, I really appreciate your perspective AND experience. That's just it, I had *assumed* she had a fresh pamper by her telling me she'd been changed, so we hopped the bus home, which of course, we missed the first one and had to wait...ugh. That is a GREAT idea to ask them to have a fresh one on her before I get her. She was probably being a stinker and holding it in. I really LOVE having everyone's take on this stuff. I don't always think of everything in a timely manner, and you all keep me grounded. Ya know I'm a worry wart to the max. OH, and guess what though?????? Rory is absolutely ravenous today, eating everything in sight. I swear, today she ate baby cereal, apple yogurt, cheerios, 1/2 bread & butter, 1 soup cube, cottage cheese, banana baby food, 1/2 slice cheese, 1 cookie, some stir-fry pureed, plum raisin baby food, 1/2 bread with cream cheese, and sucked on an apple!!!! And we still have a bedtime snack left!!! hehehehehehehe....maybe this virus was a blessing :) And she'll get more exposure to *big girl* food at daycare....two birds, one stone!!
