guest in someone's home/rant-rave
When u r staying as a guest in another person's home, do they expect u to give your child things they are allergic too just because they cooked it for u? Or do they expect u to parent in their way their perspective even though u think it is totally wrong?
I am ready to pack and leave and pay the extra cost of a hotel. DH is refusing. Our host had the nerve to tell me all of Megan's pain-is made up in order to get our attention. And, that she doesn't really hurt at night it is just a way to get us to stay awake with her.
I am so annoyed. I hate when people judge what they don't know. They expect since I am guest in their home that I am supposed to leave Meggy crying in pain and leave the room. They say she is not hurting, she is spoiled rotten.
Guest or not, I don't like being expected to leave a child in pain.
Meggy was having her gulping last night and I was told to "leave her alone and leave the room" they said she is just making that noise as part of her fit to get what she wants from you." When I objected and refused I was told u r in my home u do as I say.
What do I do, just leave DH behind too and drive away. I know these are his friends, but wrong is wrong.
Am I wrong for feeling this way?

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
OH MY GOSH! I COULDN'T SIGN IN FAST ENOUGH! I'D LEAVE THEM STANDING IN A CLOUD OF DUST WITH DIRT ON THEIR FACES!

That's uncalled for even if it was coming from family, like your mom or something. Where do people get the nerve to be that way?

I seriously would go with or without dh. He'll get over it.

I should say, I'm so sorry you're being put in this position. That is just wrong. Where's the support?

Thank you,
It is good to know I can count on you for support. I try to be a good person and nice, but I don't believe in letting anyone run over me or certainly not belittle my Meggy.

Oh my! I'd have an earful for the people you're staying with and an earful for DH if he didn't support you in this!! They have no right to tell you how to care for your child just because you are in their home. Parents make those decisions for their children no matter where they are!! You stand your ground and get a hotel room if you need to. You know what is best for your child!! Nothing irks me more than people who think they know how to raise your kids better than you do!! Don't take it!!!!

The "you are in my home do as i say" is what really got me...not that any of their other comments were at all helpful or supportive, but to tell you that you have to listen to them in the way you are taking care of meggy just bc you are in their house?? Go to motel 6 if you have to....it's cheap and very basic but at least you won't have to deal with the nonsense. Or at the very least leave the house and go out to eat for meals so you don't have to hear the comments at mealtime.

Jennifer - 1st time mom. Lauren (6/1/07) diagnosed 9/07 with GER at 3 1/2 months. Prevacid 7.5 mg in the am. Currently drinking whole milk and eating great!!
No longer aspirating! Yippee!
Picture: Why would Lauren play with the hundreds of dollars worth of toys scattered in my living room?!?! When she could play in a box! Estimated move date: Oct. 3rd!
I'd be outta there...do these people have children? a dog or a cat even? How can they be so uncompassionate!!! For the love of God you just drove from GA to see a specialist and they think you're over-reacting?!?!?!

Who do these people think they are?

Oh, I am fired up for you!!!!

Thank you everyone. I had to go on my own. DH still refused. They had the nerve to say she eats what they cook or nothing. I don't think so. A child failing to thrive and they want to take what little she eats away. I am so mad. I feel DH is being totally irresponsible.

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
Well, it sounds to me that the problem is that your hosts are jerks. Maybe they should spend a night ALONE IN YOUR SHOES before they judge. I was accused when Sebastian was two weeks old of having Munchausen's or however you spell it...because people just DO NOT GET IT. I would NEVER tell you to let a sick kid CIO (actually, I wouldn't tell you to do that either way), but come on - does your host REALLY expect you to do that IN A STRANGE PLACE??

If I were you, I would just thank them for their concern and tell that that you are really hoping to get to the bottom of things this week with your appointments and find out once and for all what you can do to make Meggy and you feel better. I'd say that you aren't comfortable making any changes like that until you are totally rule out physical problems (I know that there are...it just sounds like your hosts don't, so you might have to humor them.)

WAIT - DID YOUR HOST REALLY TELL YOU TO DO AS THEY SAID??????????? Ok. I changed my mind. I missed that. I would tell that you appreciate the hospitality (HA!HA!HA!) but that you think it might be more convenient to stay in a hotel nearer to Baltimore because of the traffic (and it's not even a lie. 495 traffic out of VA is a giant b*tch).

Did the GI say anything about scheduling an endoscopy or flex sig? I hope so...you'll need some tests to access damage, you know? We had our tests there, and I was quite pleased with the ped anesthesiologist and the team. Even though it was TORTURE, I am so glad they let me back into the room to hold Sebastian's hand when they put him under...

Let us know what you decide to do!

Wow about the Munchhousins or whatever. I figured people would make that accusation to us anytime. These people have actually said that to me. They said I am crazy and gonna make Meggy neurotic.
I did try to be polite despite many cruel comments toward my daughter and I.

As far as I am concerned DH should have stood up to them friends or not. I hurt to leave him behind like that, but he wasn't willing to do what was right.

These are his "friends" or whatever u call them that live hundreds of miles away and the fact that he wasn't willing to do what is right for his family that he lives with daily is really hurtful.

U are all so wonderful and have helped me make it past wanting to cry>LOL. I do cry when I totally frustrated and annoyed beyond reason.
I understand that this trip strains our finances, but a person can only take so much. If I had stayed I would have said a lot that everyone would have regretted.

I guess I am saying that I know my limits and stick to them. I think some people really like to hit on you when u are already wounded.
