What a week! Go away reflux monster
Ok, so I have not dropped off the face of the earth! Things have just been crazy lately. I haven't been on line, but a few minutes a day this week. We finally got our ac fixed on late Mon and were able to settle back at home Mon night. Cooper has not been doing well. The reflux is back in action. I'm not sure what it is, maybe the teething. I had planned on posting a question about sour breath, but it has since been confirmed that it is most certainly reflux. His paci will smell like vinegar and his breath and slobber is so sour. I had not heard him silent refluxing lately, but am sure that he is and this is a sign. He even had an arching fit one night this week, and he hasn't done that in forever it seems. One night he was up for an hour and a half and the next night 2+hrs. It is so frustrating. And we even bumped his meds back to the full 30mg everyday not missing a dose. I feel like maybe we should try a med like pepcid or zantac again, just to help him with the acid. He also has spit up curdled milk a few times recently, so I know the food is sitting in his tummy. My mother is getting certified in kenesio taping and has taped his tummy a few times and I am really hoping that it helps. I tried giving him peaches and the first time it seemed ok, the second time was awful. He wouldn't even eat but a few bites. Then later, I was changing his diaper (lying flat) and peaches started coming out of his nose! It was awful. He also choked badly in the car (on reflux I'm sure) and was gasping for air, very scary. He also spit up that day which is very unusual for him. His poop still looked like peaches even a few days after he had them, (they were the only thing he eats that color) so agian it makes me wonder about the tummy emptying. He has his 9mo check on Tues so I plan on addressing all these things. Also I plan on scheduling a GI appt in the coming months. Anyone have a recommendations for Cook Children's in Ft Worth? He also has started to have skin reactions. He has the dark red(almost looks like a bruise) patches on his head that are very dry. It looks like some sort of eczema. It doesn't look like cradle cap at all, just very dry. As well as a few other little eczema patches, and he had that very odd rash/bites? last week. Who knows what's going on. It certainly isn't what we are eating or at least I hope! Sorry I haven't been around. I'll try to be better, but for now I'm off to bed!

seamus mama
Seamus was diagnosed with Silent Reflux at 3 weeks. Now he is 14 months, on Prilosec and avoiding dairy, soy, egg. Still nursing. A lot !!!
Im so sorry that the monster has been visiting you too..Could there be a correlation with Coopers rashes and the reflux, like a food allergy or sensitivity? It sounds like it may have been food induced. I know that you've done the elimination diet but maybe something undetected or unassumed catalized the reflux. good luck tonight, mama.

Coyle Eagan. One Year Old. Doing well on Cow's Milk flavored with juice :) Drinking two bottles of Go&Grow daily. Eating solids better but still have rough days. No More Silent Reflux-that I can hear anyway.. but puking again. Zantac 2ML 2X daily.
So sorry to hear this. If I thought 4-6 mo. or even 6-8 mo. was bad 9-11 months was the worst ! coy also cut 4 teeth during that time... so, that could be the culprit as well. poor little man :(

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
Well, your week sounds pretty much hellacious. I'm so sorry! The peaches thing must have been horrifying. Sebastian's reflux has been through the roof for a few weeks, too. Our allerigst (we avoid the Gi like the plague) bumped us up to 30 mg of Prevacid in the evening and 15 mg in the morning earlier this week, but I can't tell if it is working yet because he was just diagnosed with a double ear infection today!

Could be eczema...it is so hard to say. There are so many different kinds, and it can really show up anywhere. I'd suggest trying some 1% cortizone for starters to see if there is any improvement...twice a day is what we've been told. Try Aquaphor in between. HTH a bit. Feel better, and hugs to Cooper!!

Wait- I forgot to say that while peaches are generally (I use that term loosely) not all that allergenic, they can wreak havoc on reflux because they are so acidic!
Check with your
doctor first!
