Our 1 year old daughter has silent reflux, hypotonia as well as benign external hydrocephalus. We are currently weaning onto whole milk (we'll see if it works) and she is also on Prevacid 15mg per day.
TMI Question
I hate to describe all this but Keira's stools for today/yesterday have smelled stronger than usual. I mean enough that you notice it pretty well if you know what I mean. They're not runny or anything - just STINKY! I know they're not suppose to smell like roses but .... can foods make it smell worse? She's a big fan of whole wheat toast and now she tolerates carrots so ... We also gave her ice cream last night (just a little). She had diaper rash this afternoon but I had gone to the store and dh was watching her and I guess he didn't notice she filled her diaper to the brim. So that probably caused that. Ok now I'm rambling- carry on, carry on---any ideas?

Sadie, It is my experience that poops will change in order intensity for little apparent reason. Certainly diet can do it. Also, sometimes if there is an imbalance in the good and bad bacteria in the colon. (yogurt/acidophilus helps that). Usually nothing much to worry about if yucky poop smell is the only symptom.

My previous drivers license was also stolen. The new one has extra security features on it.
Ice cream has more fat than anything else u mentioned she ate. If she has trouble digesting fat, it would certainly smell bad. Otherwise, it could just be her norm after eating fatty foods.
Have u tried any other fatty foods like avacado to check this?
If it is concerning, u could talk to pediatric nurse. Otherwise, I usually just wait to see if it happens again and with what foods.

Yeah that was her first "fatty" food so maybe that was it. Not sure. Her poop wasn't green and she's in a great mood so ... maybe it was just a fluke. I'll give her some yogurt today- I know that always helps for dh and I.

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
Hmmm...Sebastian has house-clearing poops, and he isn't even on food, so I can imagine what solid food can cause much more in the wayof noxious odor. As long as she seems fine, I probably wouldn't stress about it...
Check with your
doctor first!
