John Hopkins/Meggy
We did go to the gastro clinic today for the initial consultation. They are certain Meggy has an allergic disease of some sort and said the allergy cells on the endoscopy are an important factor in the matter.
We are staying in Virginia till Tuesday and going back to see Dr. Wood in the allergy clinic. For the weekend we have been instructed to keep super detailed eating records, to stop giving her juice and to start giving her Alimentum ready to feed. The GI agreed with my husband and I that if she reacted that badly to everything with corn in it that we should not keep pushing it (neocate E028 splash)
He wants us to work with the allergy clinic for an official and monitored elimination diet. They will give us foods that they know are safe.
We accidentally gave her soup tonight that had corn starch. Oh me-my DH is in there trying to calm her down now. It is just so hard to eat at someone else's house and monitor everything they cook.
Our friends have taken us in for the weekend and are helping in all the ways they know how. We appreciate their help and just try not to be too bossy about the food.
He also said that the rash she had after the immunization definitely appears to be an allergic reaction. LOL-He was even giving me camera tips to get better-more definitive pics.
I am very impressed and pleased. We may not know much yet, but we have given a very thorough history and have a start. I hope we will figure this out.

ethan's mom
Meridith, mom to Ethan born 4/23/08. Ethan was diagnosed with reflux at about 1 month. He has been on Zantac (unsuccessful) and Prevacid. He is currently taking 7.5 mg of Prevacid 2x per day, with good results. We also suspect MPI, though this hasn't been confirmed by a doctor yet.
Ethan is mostly breastfed, though we are doing one bottle of soy formula each day. We also do some homeade "solids' including, so far pears, avocado, sweet potato, and peaches.

katiesmommy
Tracey, mom to Katie. Diagnosed with reflux at 3 weeks and put on Zantac. At 8 months old she was removed from Zantac as it was giving her migraines, currently on Prevacid. Switched to Elecare since she is not gaining weight; trialing solids after being off for a month. Geneticist said reason she isn't gaining weight is she is stubborn. Upcoming appts.: Neurologist for developmental delay and EGD scheduled for September. She is one funny baby!
glad you are getting some answers!

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
What a relief you must feel. I wish you the best of luck.

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
Glad to hear you are getting good advice at Hopkins! I have had horrible luck with that GI department (Dr. Wood said I should consult him for all of Sebastian's GI issues from now because of our misdiagnoses in that clinic...ones that contributed to him being on formula only)...but I know many others have been in excellent hands there. I think one of our problems was that Sebastian was basically brushed off because of his size.

OK...YAY for seeing Dr. Wood! He is AMAZING, and his team member, Dr. Nuraceti, is terrific as well (you will meet with her for intake). That man is a Godsend...GOOD LUCK AND HEED HIS ADVICE.

Can you buy your own foods just for Meggy?

I find that people are more than happy to take precautions but you have to remind them...alot! My mom is the worst one to want to give my son something not realizing it has his allergen(s) in it. She finally has leared to ask me before she asks him.
