?? bout fevers.
What is the norm average we are on day 4.5 with no improvement in sight. We are on day 3 of antbtx shouldn't they have kicked in by now?

I am doubling with Motrin and Tylenol and still I can not get to go below 101. I do the motrin then 2 hours later I do the Tylenol then I repeat at the scheduled time according to the bottle. Per the Pd directions.

He is taking in fluids, not eating much. He is going fine to the bathroom so I am not worried about dehydration. I finlly got him to fall asleep. I gave him a massagie as he calls them. I have begged him all day to sleep telling him his body needs to rest so he can get better.

Should I take him back to the Dr? I don't think either of my kids has ever had a fever this long.

I would give it until the antibiotics run out. The thing about fevers is that it's the body's way of fighting off the infection so that is likely what he is doing. If it gets above 103 for a long period of time, that might warrant a call to the doc.

ethan's mom
Meridith, mom to Ethan born 4/23/08. Ethan was diagnosed with reflux at about 1 month. He has been on Zantac (unsuccessful) and Prevacid. He is currently taking 7.5 mg of Prevacid 2x per day, with good results. We also suspect MPI, though this hasn't been confirmed by a doctor yet.
Ethan is mostly breastfed, though we are doing one bottle of soy formula each day. We also do some homeade "solids' including, so far pears, avocado, sweet potato, and peaches.

I'm a new mommy so I don't know about the average length of fever, but I think that you'd be justified in taking him back in. Maybe after his nap things will be better :)

jedd'smommy
Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/jedd
I wonder if it's Roseolo. (sp?)

When Jedd had that he ran a HIGH fever even with tylenol and motrin piggy backed. It lasted about 5-6 days. We never saw the rash like can happen. Sometime the rash is soo small it doens't get noticed other times the child can be covered from head to toe in the rash...LOL We were lucky.

the fever in and of itself I woudl not be afraid of as long as it stay below about 104. The reason I say that is because you say it comes down the meds.

Why are you giving the ABX orignally. It coudl be whatever thye were needed for is not responding so somethign stronger is needed. You could always take him back and get a Rocephron (SP?) it's an ABX shot. Oh, and it's big and it hurts...OUCH

O god Juls would hate me if I subject him to any more shots! He hates the DR's he seriously gets pale and lethargic when we are there and his heart rate goes up. So not fun, I'm sure many here can relate.

We had him in urgent care a few nights ago turns out he has the double ear infection. That is what the ABX are for. He had that roseolo(sp) when he was about 2 and he got the rash big time. Isn't that like the pox though? Like where you only get it once?

He just woke up from his nap and is asking for food. We'll see how does after he eats.

He is below the 104 mark last night I gave him a dose at about 10 and when he woke up this morning at 6 it was at 101.3 So it is an improvement from Tues where he was at 103.9

I just took it now and he is at 98.7 with the last dose at 2

I am just so exhausted. How selfish of me wanting to rest? I just cant help it, it has been a rough past couple of weeks with the big move cross country, new house, new neighbors, new school for them I have not even completely unpacked I am living like a gypsie.. I guess I am just running on a short fuse, running out of gas.

Sorry I guess I needed to do some venting again. I am off to feed my little man. :) Thanks for the support.

I agree, give the meds time to work. Make sure he gets plenty of fluids and keep checking those diapers. Take him in if his fever gets to and stays at 103 and you can't get it to come back down or he doesn't wet his diapers as usual.

The fever is not the bad thing, the virus is. As Sarah said, it's a defense mechanism. The high fevers can cause seizures so you'll want to get immediate help if it gets that high and stays there, spikes uncontrollably or he has a seizure at home.

I hope he feels better soon.

Selfish?! NO you are NOT! Of course you want to rest. Everyone gets tired. Just becasue we are mommies doesn't mean we aren't human anymore. You are entitled to some down time. Now that he seems to be feeling better I hope you get it.

Good night ~Ronya
