pH probe question ~ Please HELP!
Hey everyone~

Did any of you have to with hold food before they pulled the pH probe out? A parent wants advice. I (personally) know that mine throw up easily so I would make sure they didn't have a full tummy.

Thoughts? What happened with yours? Did you with hold food?

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/jedd
We had to be empty prior to placing Jedd's Impendance probe. I t hink we cut his feeds at midnight actually. They didn't want him to vomit on them...LOL

the PH may bot be as long of a cut off though. I know that the Impendance was calibrated to his stomach PH level so he needed to be completely empty.

with Jedd's NG tube when he had it as long as it was put in fast enough he wouldn't puke. I was pretty fast though....not sure if a nurse would be that agressive or that fast..LOL the nurse that placed the Impendance actually did it pretty slow (compared to me..LOL) and Jedd did gag a bit. And they had a hard time taping him up too.

Just t hought I'd add a little more.

Sorry. I think I am being unclear. The parent's child already had the probe placed and fasted for that part. They are wondering if they need to fast for the probe removal part. :) Thanks for your help!

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
We only had to withhold for the upper GI. When we got the probe taken out, we didn't even go into a room. The tech sat with us on a bench and just pulled it out. There was nothing to it. Putting it in was a little yucky, but not too bad.

LOL. I know it is only supposed to take like a minute or less to pull it out and be done. Mine are gaggers so I would worry about them. Melina nearly hurled all over the place with her last strep test. ;)

Oh, Morgan hates the strep test! Really! She gags with it too. Actually, I do too.

Nope Jedd didn't need to be empty for that. They yank that sucker out pretty fast too!! LOL

the longest part is getting the tape all undone. Jedd never gagged when the tubes (either probe or NG) was yanked out. It is jsut soo fast. We whipped that sucker out of there..LOL

Aidan pulled his out himself so I can't imagine why you would need any empty belly. You can eat the whole time you are doing it so I am sure you can eat before pulling it out.
Check with your
doctor first!
