Okay, maybe it's just me, but I am appalled at the care she is (or isn't) recieving. She lost 14 oz in 4 days!!! Probably more like a pound since this thing started. She only weighed 17lb 7oz and they aren't concerned. Basically, the nurse came in and tried to give her codeine and she vomited the oz I got in her while we waited, so she gave her a suppository. She said she'd be back in to start fluids.....then the student came in, we gave him the rundown, he said she wasn't dehydrated, the same doctor we saw Saturday night (who, btw, said she could go to daycare THAT monday...duh, it's contagious)...anyway, he said the virus has probably mostly run it's course, and when it's gone she'll eat more, end of story. Nothing for her pain, nothing for her mouth sores, nothing about her weight loss. I said, "well, if it last two more days, and she loses another 1/2 lb, then what"...and he didn't answer me. Rory's pediatrician didn't even have the decency to come to the hospital or request a followup...we'll just keep her appt for next month. The good thing is that the suppository worked much better than oral tylenol and she did drink 4 oz and eat some yogurt when we got home...but she is staggering, her eyes are sunken and even Mike says she looks like CRAP!

Am I crazy to think there should be *some* level of concern over this?? Considering her feeding history, and the fact that she was already small to begin with. Nope, they just giggled over how skinny she is. Well, I"M NOT LAUGHING!!! So, we just continue to go with the flow. At least she's not dehydrated, according to their exam. They didn't do any blood tests, though. I'll just hang in there with her and hope it's over soon. Thanks again for your support!!

Jennifer - 1st time mom. Lauren (6/1/07) diagnosed 9/07 with GER at 3 1/2 months. Prevacid 7.5 mg in the am. Currently drinking whole milk and eating great!!
No longer aspirating! Yippee!
Picture: Why would Lauren play with the hundreds of dollars worth of toys scattered in my living room?!?! When she could play in a box! Estimated move date: Oct. 3rd!
I am shocked by this too! When I took Lauren in for SUSPECTED dehydration they instantly did a blood panel (which sucked watching them stick her) that told us that she was not dehydrated but very close. The ran an entire bag of IV fluids in before we left! The doctor said that the fluids they gave her through the IV would be enough fluids for today and tomorrow, so we didn't have to worry about hydration for 2 days and that hopefully she'd be feeling better by then.

I so wish I could fly you to the states right now for medical attention!!! I am so sorry you are getting the run around with her! Of all kids!!! I hope she shakes this soon and starts eating again!!!

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Well, they're just inconsiderate morons. I mean it's understandable that they don't know her history of eating issues. They prob just think you're overreacting, but if they would take the time to LISTEN to you...they might see how big of an issue this is for HER. Maybe 14oz isn't much for the ave. child but I would think for her it's more of an issue. Now this is coming from the #1 overprotective mom :) Can you have her seen by another ped? At least what YOU did worked to some degree. Sorry you're going through this!

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
PLEASE do not tell me they were GIGGLING over her weight!C What the crap? SInce when is that hilarious? What is WRONG with people? Well, at least Rory has her mommy watching out for her since some of the docs apparently aren't. I am so, so sorry. Thinking of you, as always!

Kathryn, Pager Volunteer and mommy to Emily Mia 02/04/07. 3 years old with GERD. 30mg Prevacid and Pepcid AC. Mylanta needed for flares. Failed prilosec med switch. Tried and failed many med weans but GERD and pain are well controlled. Functional constipation. Reoccurring SBBO. Suspected IBD or autoimmune disease. Resolved issues: MSPI, CSID (acquired), Stage 2 kidney reflux, Chronic diarrhea.
Audrey Meadow 06/20/08. born 34/35 weeks. Still b/f and eats everything! ftt and chronic constipation.
i can not believe i am reading this. this from a health care system that is supposed to be superior to the US. When Emily had pneumonia and they suspected dehydration too, they took blood and ran an IV even before the results were back. (we paid an arm and a leg for it but it was done...) Could you get her some pedilyte? does she want to eat ice, ice creme or even popscicles?? I would have seriously been in those doctors faces if they were giggling about my daughter's weight, sick time is no time for jokes, ugh the nerve! *big hugs*

Trust me guys, I was cringing. I wish I knew *how* to advocate for her better. I think it goes back to the early reflux days where I was made to feel like a crazy person because it was *just* reflux....despite failure to thrive, bottle fighting, feeding problems, kwim? I did keep a 24 hour log and they didn't even want to see it. He said it doesn't matter how much she took in, she's wetting her diapers. You're right Melissa, they didn't *listen* to me...her diapers are feather light. I tried to explain to the on-call pediatrician that she has had feeding aversions that we just started to overcome and that she *might* not bounce back as fast as another toddler might, that I'm extremely concerned with the weight loss, and all he said was to followup with her ped in a month, which I WON'T be doing. I'll be asking for a referral to a new ped at her 18 month check with the GP next week.

He made me feel like, once again, we were overreacting. Her lips were so dry and cracked, her gums are bleeding....the triage nurse said we did the right thing by bringing her in.....anyway, hopefully she'll kick this thing soon...she's whining at my feet as we speak, lol. Gotta go...HUGS
