Waiting for the pediatrician to call
We had another horrible night last night. In the first few nights I was able to get formula in her at night, but last night she completely refused everything from 5pm to 4am. She's only had 9 oz in the last 20 hours. The ped is out today, but am hoping she will call me back. I really think Rory is becoming dehydrated. Her lips are dry and the top one is calloused and cracked. Her mouth is wet, but sticky. The skin in her groin and armpits is wrinkly and feels like tissue paper *old lady* skin. Is this a sign of dehydration or weight loss? She's not as miserable today as she was last night, she's walking around and wanting to play, but she's refusing the bottle and even CHEESE!!! I want to take her to emerg but have to wait until Mike gets home. I am hoping the pediatrician will tell us to take her so that they will take us seriously when we get there. If she doesn't call soon I am going to lose it!!!

Even if she is only mildly dehydrated, she can't go on like this much longer, taking in HALF of what she needs just to maintain her weight. I thought she was getting better....we really need sleep soon!!!!

Adriane Reese 05/16/07; seemingly healthy when born; diagnosed with MSPI, severe Reflux, Apnea, Ashtma, Epilepsy, and severe food allergies(rice, corn, milk, soy, eggs, oats, wheat, beef, chicken, squash, pumpkin, avocado, etc.);On apnea monitor, seems to be tolerating RCF w/carbohydrate mixed in; on Zyrtec, Xopenex, Prevacid
9oz. isn't enough for her. You already know that though or you wouldn't be concerned. A was still having some wet diapers and a sticky mouth and even some tears but when we took her into the ER she was so dehydrated they couldn't get her IV in. How is her coloring? If she is gray or anything that is a good sign also. I know that sounds weird but I have seen it. I hope the doc calls back soon. Take care!

It's hard to answer about her coloring because even when she's well she is very very pale. It's 11 am here now, she just had 3 oz and finally fell asleep....So we're up to 12 oz in the last 21 hours.....I feel a bit better now. But she'll probably sleep for the next couple hours, taking us to 12 oz in 24. I really appreciate you telling me your story because I feel like, yes, she's wetting, but I only know because of the smell....there is NO weight to the diaper at all.....she could still be dehydrated despite not having ALL the signs. She won't take ice cream or popsicles or yogurt.....she will let me put an open cup of water to her lips, but she won't open her mouth and it just dribbles down her shirt. Would vaseline help her lips, I wonder?

Does she have tears? My dd was dehydrated when she had the stomach flu a couple years back. She had no tears but still had a little bit of a wet diaper. I'd take her in anyway just to be sure. I was amazed how my dd recovered almost instantly when we went home after having an IV placed. Do you have gatorade? That really help hydrate and she might like it?!?!?! I'm sure you've thought of everything. (((HUGS)))

seamus mama
Seamus was diagnosed with Silent Reflux at 3 weeks. Now he is 14 months, on Prilosec and avoiding dairy, soy, egg. Still nursing. A lot !!!
It sounds like she is dehydrated. Does she eat melon? It is filled with water. When Seamus refuses to drink melon does the trick. Maybe you can try it. I hope the pedi calls SOON! xoxo

Is she wetting her diapers as normal? If not, then she should go to the clinic for fluids. Dehydration needs to be caught asap. Good luck. I hope she feels better soon.

Has the pdi called yet???

I would be worried. Not only about dehydration but about the intake and weight lose at this point.

If they don't call soon I'd jsut take her for IV fluids.

Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
I think I'd make another call...and another and another every hour until the pedi calls back. It certainly sounds like she's dehydrated. Have you tried giving her liquids with a syringe or a spoon? I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this.
