Hey everyone~ We talked in an earlier post about doing an update post once a week. So if you have a chance do a quick update here to catch everyone up:)

I'll go first... Nolan has been on milk for a few weeks now. No problems. I still have a 1/2 can of formula that I am using up but after that it will be 100% milk. Then in Oct. we will be starting a med wean. His next well child check is on Oct. 17th. ****His lastest accomplishment is he is walking!!! About 5 steps in a row before he falls. It is so fun to watch him and his siblings are so proud of him too.

Okay your turns:)

ethan's mom
Meridith, mom to Ethan born 4/23/08. Ethan was diagnosed with reflux at about 1 month. He has been on Zantac (unsuccessful) and Prevacid. He is currently taking 7.5 mg of Prevacid 2x per day, with good results. We also suspect MPI, though this hasn't been confirmed by a doctor yet.
Ethan is mostly breastfed, though we are doing one bottle of soy formula each day. We also do some homeade "solids' including, so far pears, avocado, sweet potato, and peaches.
Hello everyone. I wanted to start by apologizing for not answering posts very much in the last week or so. I truly appreciate the support I get here, and I want to offer the same back to you all. I keep all of your families in my prayers.
A couple of weeks ago, we started to work on some sleep training with Ethan, but every time we make some ground, something goes wrong. He had a setback due to constipation last week, and having to do a suppository messed up the bedtime routine. Poor baby! This week we have an "unknown monster" rearing its ugly head. I can't decide if it is teething (occasional low grade fever, slight rash on chin), reflux pain (arching during feeding, waking up as soon as I lie him down, coughing), or an ear infection (woke up with blood in ear one morning, from his fingernail scratching his ear, can't decide if he is touching the ear more than usual or not).
We have a five month check-up/vaccination trip to the pedi tomorrow, and so long as he doesn't seem to feel worse, I'm just going to wait until then to see if she can figure it out. Since he is not feeling well, I now have to decide whether or not to give the vaccine scheduled for tomorrow.
We do now have an appointment with a pediatric GI, for October 18th, so there is hope of a chance to get some more specialized treatment.
Ethan has started on some solids, and has successfully eaten avocado puree and sweet potato puree, but he seemed to have a little trouble with bananas. I am just giving him one serving a couple of times a week, until we see the GI, for some feeding advice. He is also working very hard un sitting up by himself, so I am excited about that accomplishment.
I can't wait to hear about all of your little ones.

Pictured: G'mom w/3 kids. I'm mom to 1 angel Melissa (dec'd 11/92 - hypoplastic left-heart syn.)
2 healthy daughters (knock wood) Cory (16), Kim (11) & Eric (4) diagnosed with e.e. (scoped 8/08), GERD & severe food/seasonal allergies, asthma. Cried non-stop first 17 mths. of life Found out he is allergic to cow's milk, soy, eggs, and peanuts. Takes Prevacid, Neocate One Plus & Flovent.
Hi all. Eric was sick as a dog Sat. (he goes from headcold to hospital in 24 hrs. due to the asthma). We didn't actually put him in the hospital this time, just round the clock nebs. plus Zyrtec (the drs. idea). Unfortunately, his dad, myself & my other daughter (who brought it home from school - urrrrrrrr) also were sick. Anyway, Eric is doing much better now. Hope your week was better.

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
I haven't had a chance to update or even read all the posts for a while. Allie started walking about 3 weeks ago and hasn't stopped yet! Her 1st birthday is Monday, and the IL's are coming in from Chicago, so I'm attempting to get the house in order.

OT - prayers for my hubby. He's got a fantastic job opportunity that may begin as soon as he can finish out a 2 week resignation, but no word yet. Hence, that may mean a move, so I'm slowly trying to pack up the house while chasing my munchkin and getting everything together for her party on Saturday.

On the reflux side of things, we're not going to try weaning her until 14 months, per her GE doc, since she's in the hight of teething and my attempts to wean down were unsuccessful. She's doing well otherwise, and the only puking we've had is when the teeth are acting up.

Congrats to Nolan for walking as well - nothing like that to keep you in shape! I hate to read about all the sickies, but maybe that will mean a better winter if they build up immunity now! Thinking of and praying for everyone!

Picture: This is what happens when you raise a kid on health food and they get ahold of a Coke! Bad mom, that soda is NOT on the reflux diet.
UPDATE: Isaiah is now 12 and off meds! He is doing great, eating again and hopefully will be catching up in the growing department. I am still in the "hoping it sticks" phase, but we're so happy that he's better!
Great idea! We are doing OK, but Isaiah has been having some reflux flares lately. He comes down and pops rolaids a few nights a week in the last couple of weeks. Dh and I have had a tummy bug of some sort, which has hung on for over a week now...I'm wondering if maybe that could be part of what's going on. At any rate, I'm not happy to see him struggling again but he is still doing really well overall. Also, FINALLY he has grown some! He didn't grow at all all winter, and really not much over the summer. Suddenly he's put on nearly an inch and he looks more solid...not 'normal' in weight but at least he's looking *thin* rather than skinny. He's been eating more, which also might be why the reflux is flaring up...we'll see. I'm trying to pack in lots of food during the day, so that he's gotten enough to eat before the evening...since his reflux always seems to happen at night. Other than that, we're just really busy right now with having started school!

Coyle Eagan. One Year Old. Doing well on Cow's Milk flavored with juice :) Drinking two bottles of Go&Grow daily. Eating solids better but still have rough days. No More Silent Reflux-that I can hear anyway.. but puking again. Zantac 2ML 2X daily.
Hi everyone. Coyle is not eating well or sleeping well. Not sure if it si the molars or not. He was up from 3a to 5a last night until he finally passed out in my arms while we were in the living room chair. He completely refused a morning nap and has been puking most of the day. I finally got him to drink some milk by flavoring it with the juice he lvoes so much. However, it makes him vomit...not sure if i should cut that out or not. he's cruising everywhere so probably on the verge of walking but I'm really in no hurry!

Hello all! Glad to hear we have some more walkers! Aubrey is not doing well. She woke this morning w/ 103.2 fever. I can't get her to eat much at all, even tried popsicles and rice milk ice cream. Her reflux has flared up and the diahrea has already started. I have ds bday party here this weekend I am trying to get ready for, but not able to get much done w/ a sick kiddo. Oh ya Brandon turns 5 tomorrow! I will end on the good note! Hope everyone's day gets better!

Donnessa, mom to Halley born 3/10/07
Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
Great idea, Amber!

We just got back from Halley's post-op visit with the ENT. He said her ears look perfect and she passed the hearing test this time - hurray!! I mentioned to him that Halley's refluxing was very severe the day of the surgery and he was puzzled - he too thinks it was related to the anesthesia. Her ENT is also a respiratory allergy specialist, so we'll be back to see him in two weeks to talk about her allergies. We're getting her blood test done tomorrow - not looking forward to that. The doctor is SOOOO nice, so it will be great to have him be able to handle both her ears and her allergies :-).

We're having a horrible time with her teething at night. I desperately want to sleep train her, but I just don't have the heart until the molars come through. The ones on the bottom look like they are coming to come through any day - the ones on top have pushed through finally. She screamed for an hour last night around midnight before she finally fell asleep exhausted - I felt so sorry for her. I've noticed more burping and gulping lately, so I'm wondering if she is refluxing. She doesn't seem to be in pain, so hopefully it's just that - burping.

Congrats on all the walkers - let the running commence! Thinking of all the sick los.

I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
oh this is fun! Joslyn is doing okay on Prevacid. She is having restless times at night for the past 3 nights. She will cry for a few seconds, I pop her paci back in and she goes back to sleep. Her nursing has not gotten much better. But she does not scream as bad anymore! so that is good news. She goes to her GI Spec. next Wedns so we will speak to him about that. New on our front??? Joslyn will now talk and squeal to get our attention! I was sitting on the couch with her and DH was at the computer. Joslyn saw him and squealed for his attention! When he looked at her she started talking to him!!! HEHE it was great! She is getting better at sitting up... with support. Oh and she was holding books yesterday!!!!!! (pic included!)

This is great that everyone can add a little update to stay in touch. Actually this was Danie's idea so she gets the credit!

I'm sorry to hear about all the sick los:( I hope everyone feels better soon.

Congrats to the other walkers. Such a big milestone:) They're getting way to big.

Mom (Danie) to Adam (9-4-03) & Nate (3-7-07) Nate was diagnosed with silent AR at 2 months old. He was on neocate, prevacid 30mg per day and couldn't start solids till he was almost 8 months old. He started cow's milk at 14 months and is currently off all meds!! So far so good :) PIC: Disney trip 2008. Nate didn't know Piglet was there, he didn't like the characters too much.
I can't take the credit's actually something MEL used to do, lol.

We are ok here. I am sick, dh is sick, NAte is still sick but Adam is doing great, lol!! At least one of us is.

Nate plain HATES school. He cries when I drop him off...they have to rip him from my arms. He cries when I pick him totally breaks my heart. Adam was a year older when I started him...he cried but not like this :(

Our weather is much nicer. The rain has stopped but our county was declared a "disaster area" by our governor. I know it is much worse where Lauren's mom is...I haven't read any posts from her, anyone know how she is?? Half the roads are closed but for the most part, everyone is safe and very FEW power outages.

I love to be able to read all the updates on a post like this, it really makes it easy. Take care all :)

Mary & Nicholas 7-17-03 (non-refluxer)allergies, asthma on Singulair and Flovent & Aidan 1-28-07(my refluxer)Nissen Fundoplication on June 20, 2008, FTT, MSPI, DGE, ear tubes, allergies and severe GERD now currently taking just Prevacid and drinking Elecare Vanilla 1+.
I am late to this but Aidan seems to be doing o.k. We have tried to reintroduce milk again and I can't decide if it is going well or not. He is sleeping like crap at night again which is killing me but I don't know if it is teeth, ears, reflux or just a really bad habit and needs some tough love. I also wonder if he is really hungry still at night because he still isn't eating very much during the day. So I wonder if he is still night waking from hunger. I just wish I didn't have to guess what was wrong with my child.

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
Yay for the good news on here (yay for Nolan's milk drinking, for example!), and sorry for those of you that are having troubles (Example: like you, Kelly. Coy needs to get with the program).

Sebastian has been sleeping like total poop for weeks. Yesterday his Prevacid was upped to 30 mg in the evening and 15 mg in the morning. He will remain on no foods (as he has been since July) until at least November or December, but possibly int 2009. He slept WONDERFULLY last night and went down for his a.m. nap with ease. He just couldn't sleep (just laid in my arms) for his afternoon nap. I gave up and he had a blowout and a huge vomit. Sigh. He also got a bloody nose today (why???) and a raised rash from rolling around in the grass at the playground :( Tonight is going crappy, but hey - one day at a time!!!

On the brigth side, he is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo funny and sweet. He tortures the dog like no other and LOVES to be manhandled!!!

Mom to Matthew, 01/16/08, GERD baby, has been on Zantac since 2 mos. Aidan, his twin brother, no GERD. Max-ed out on Zantac at 1ml-3 times/day, and switched to Prevacid 15mg split tab 08/20/08. Switched again to 20mg Prilosec 09/18/08 due to Prevacid's restlessness/headache side effects. Reflux was out of control again and had to switch to 10mg Nexium 02/11/09. Good result so far.
It's nice to hear updates from everyone. God bless all our little ones. We went to see a new GI this afternoon and he suggested that we try Prilosec to see if Matthew can have a better sleep. I'm nervous. Matthew seems to have less reflux pain during the day and his mild diahrrea was over. Thank God! The stool test came back normal. However, he is still waking up at night crying out and naps less and less during the day. The past 3-4 days were hard and he seems to be irritated by something. I thought it was his teething. But per the GI, teething can't last that long. His sleep problem has started since we switched to Prevacid a month ago. The GI suspects it could be Prevacid's headache side effect. We will give Prilosec a try tomorrow. We'll see how it goes.

My Turn - Julian Update
What a great Idea! As I sit here I think to myself what a difference a week really makes, I hope all the sick los bounce back soon and we get a lot more great updates this time next week.

Way to go to for the new walkers and happy trails :) for mom! Good luck on the Med weening as well.

As for us we are on day four of a fever, Julian came into my room early this morning feeling naseaus again, that crappy fever is still around. I have been doubling him up with Tylenol & Motrin to keep it at bay and last night round 11 he had his last dose of Motrin at the time his temp was normal so I really felt we were out of the woods. During the day he was able to eat and drink so I was glad about that, hopefully the tylenol kicks in fast this morning so we can continue to pump the fluids in him. The cough is still there but I think is a "sick" cough and not reflux it does not sound so "barky"

I had my interview yesterday, I went in feeling like a zombie but did really well regardless. I let them know up front the issues we have with Julian and that I will need flexibility and they totally understood, turns out Credit Manager there has a son who suffered from GERD and he is now 26 and out grew it. I didn't get to ask her how old he was when he finally kicked GERD in the butt. I will! I will definitely pick her brain.

I interviewed with 4 people yesterday I was there for about 2 hours and by 2 in the afternoon the CFO called to make an offer! :) I went in there and was very direct, up front and honest about what I "need" They agreed to everything so I felt a huge pressure of about 500 lbs lift off. I let them know up front that we have many doctors appt's a head of us and such and they were ok with that. They are very "family first"

Provided Julian bounces back and is able to go to school I will start on Monday :) They were even flexible with my start date. So I am shooting for Monday. I feel really blessed and I want to say thank you for the good vibes!

I wish you all luck and every single one of yous' are in my thoughts and prayers.

♥ Gaby

This is definitely a great way to catch up quick!! Didn't even get to get online yesterday. This is my first week back off extended maternity leave for Nicholas. DH totally overwhelmed being home with both boys. We are considering daycare for Nathan a couple days a week to give dh a break and Nathan some much needed interaction with other los. We are very nervous about leaving him in daycare and very nervous he will get sick and bring home a cold to poor Nicholas, who with his laryngomalacia/pulmonary concerns, we really,REALLY don't want to get sick. Nicholas is still teething and still not sleeping through the night. Sometimes he will fall asleep on his own in glider or on mat. I keep wanting to put him in his bed drowsy so he can learn to put himself to sleep, but whenever I try, he writhes around and inevitabley ends up laying in a pile of spit-up. Who can sleep in that?? We've tried the simply thick and though it didn't help his eczema at all (it's horrible-all over his little body now) he seems to be able to eat with less choking and gasping, which we are very happy about. I ordered some Neocate for him and will start it after I finish the open can of Neutramagen in hopes that it helps his eczema, seborrhea and reflux. We have put off introducing solids until 6 months-per GI and everyone here's encouragement. He can roll back to front, not yet front to back and we got our first genuine chuckling laugh this week!!! It was so great to hear, especially from a baby who has had to deal with so much. Congrats to the new walkers! Hope all the sickies get well soon. Thinking of you all!
Check with your
doctor first!
