Seamus was diagnosed with Silent Reflux at 3 weeks. Now he is 14 months, on Prilosec and avoiding dairy, soy, egg. Still nursing. A lot !!!
Seamus off the meds- Keep your fingers crossed!
Hi all We were doing Prilosec twice a day for a few months and Seamus has been showing no signs of silent reflux. The GI had me reduce the PPI to once a day, for 3 weeks. He seemed the same, except for the onset of a cold. Yesterday the GI suggested stopping the PPI altogether. We are on night #2 of NO MEDS. Does anybody know how long it takes for PPIs to leave the system? Is there the chance that there may be rebound of reflux from the lack of meds? I am totally nervous. Seamus has silent reflux so it is challenging to tell if he is having mild reflux..I know when the reflux is surging terribly because he shrieks out in pain regularly and arches his back during and after feedings. Luckily, its been awhile since such attacks. Seamus is a horrible sleeper as you all know. I guess if his sleep gets drastically worse I will know that he is not reflux free. This is tricky. I hope that I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel but reflux is so unpredicatble and heartbreaking that I don't want to get my hopes up..We'll see what tonight brings..Goodnight.

Hey! I have no answer to your question, but I'm glad to hear that things have been going so well with Seamus' reflux. May restful nights be yours soon! (I'd still love to share with you some of what I have learned about infant/child sleep cycles, and where they ca go awry -- so if you're interested, drop me an email and I'll send it your way. --Cristina

Good luck! When we cut down Nolan's prevacid it was about day 7 when he started having a flare. He had acid breath and was crying and whining all day long. He started having wet burps. So that was how I knew he wasn't ready. I understand your fears. I am going to be doing a med wean soon. It is a scarey thought. But you won't know unless you try right?

My previous drivers license was also stolen. The new one has extra security features on it.
Wishing Seamus the very best. Meggy slept so much better after weaning from Prevacid. I think it interupted her sleep quite a bit. I wish u the very best and hope your LO will sleep better too and remain reflux free.

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
I hope this goes well for you!!! How is he doing so far tonight?

Thanks for all the support ladies. Seamus seems to be the same little guy.I read that Nolan had a flare up at Day 7 after the wean..Uggh. I guess I shouldnt make any solid or exiting plans for the next week or so. i am so paranoid..Its hard to sleep because I am obsessing over watching his face for signs of pain/yucky taste in mouth. He is getting over a cold so he has more mucus to deal with right now..As far as sleep goes, he still wakes up every 1-2 hours..Thats how it was on a full dose of PPI. I pray that it was the meds interrupting his sleep! Yeah, right! He is SUCH a sleep rebel. I want to wait awhile before trying anymore sleep training. Right now I am clenching my jaws waiting as the days slowly pass by..It is really stressful. I hate reflux.
